Looks great, but I'm missing something here: why is the underhood insulator kit sold separately? I take it the kit is included if you buy the hood insulator itself? Why would you want to buy the kit without the insulator?

Only other point I wanted to mention is that for a custom item the price seems fair to me, but... $60 for shipping? I just bought an 80 pound case of ammo that was shipped from Georgia Arms to CA and it was less than that for S&H. Must be some pretty unique/large packaging I guess. (?)

Thanks for any info. The quality of the OEM hood liner is pretty weak for sure and these look like great upgrades.

Regards,

Norm

Do you have any pictures of an actual install on a Marauder, front & back ?

Would like to see the finished product installed to get a better picture of the size of the emblems and contrast. :help:

From what I can see on the attachments, the embroidery looks very high quality. :2thumbs:

I ordered mine last week on a pre-release order form. It is basically the same as Marty's. The reason price and shipping is so high for the insulator over the kit is the insulator is essentially the size of your hood. That's oversize shipping so it doesn't matter that it only weighs 5 lb. I am told that the kit can be self-installed and looks just like the entire insulator, actually is exactly the same thing because they get the insulator from FoMoCo and install the cover on it. All that being said, I was hoping to get mine installed and post some pics but don't have it yet. TAF's is also supposed to be made in that same batch, so maybe he knows more.

So, just so I understand, it's approx. $280 for the insulator, then another $160 for the kit, and then $60 S&H? So $500 for the hood alone?

Tnx.

No.
It's $160 for the kit plus shipping which is considerably less than $60. (I believe it's $18)

OR

It's $280 for the insulator plus $60 for shipping.

Why so much difference, you may ask... The insulator is probably around $50 for them to buy plus shipping to their facility (around $60) plus time for installation. The kit is ready to install and comes with everything you need. Rich tells me the only reason he can see for anyone to buy the insulator instead of the kit is if their insulator is really bad messed up. (Like Smokie's maybe)

Got it, thanks. The only downside then is that this seems to be designed to fit over the OEM insulator. Mine is already rubbing on the cold air kit, so I don't see how I could make it any thicker by adding this.

Thanks again for the info.

Is the complete plug & play thinner than OEM liner? If it is not, than what is going to keep it from getting damaged by the blower pulley?

The kit is a cloth you glue to the OEM liner? Adding to the thickness of something that is already rubbing?

If my understanding is wrong, please explain, I don't want to buy something that is going to be damaged exactly like what I have now.

There are three offerings.

One is the trunklid liner.

Another is the underhood insulator KIT. The kit comes with adhesive to install the decorative fabric cover on your existing underhood insulator.

The third option is the underhood insulator. It is a OEM factory insulator which was purchased from FoMoCo by CAR Motorsports and then they installed the above referenced kit onto it and they re-sell the complete underhood insulator to the customer. You do not need both the insulator and the kit. You only need the insulator if your insulator is damaged or if you do not believe you can install the cover on your original insulator yourself.

Yes, it is thicker than the OEM insulator by the thickness of the fabric. I do not know if a Trilogy pulley will cause damage to it, but if the better attachment plugs are used it should not.

Thank you Brian, I don't think either product is going to survive my blower pulley, I thought what was going to be offered was a completely new material and design insulator as described in their web site, I was hoping for a finished product that is thinner than OEM.

I think that the Supercharged embroidered product is beautiful and I would love to own one....not if my pulley is going to damage it.....too bad. I really like the way it looks.:bigcry:

I'm not sure, but I was thinking that the cutout area in your insulator could be covered with the kit and become a "dimple" which would clear the pulley. I don't know what the cutout in your insulator looks like nor do I know for sure how smooth it would look with the cover installed. My insulator has a small damaged place in it so I'll find out how well the cover hides it and post pics.

If you enlarge the picture you can see it is concave and the 2 sheets of polished aluminun are highly compressing the OEM insulation which in that area is about 1" thick...and still under high torque loads the pulley stills makes slight contact with aluminun panel... I need a product that is not an 1" thick in that area.

Gang,

Easy solution to all your problems....This is why the "KIT" is the answer.
FIRST: Cut your original insulator away in the area that it is interferring with your Cold Air Intake, Pulley, Etc. Then you will be be covering this original(now modified by you) insulator and wrapping around the cutout area or areas with the black covering material featuring the fabulous Marauder embroidery, color matched to your specifications. It will look like a factory installation when you are finished. We do this all the time for modified engine situations. No more torn or damaged UHI's and the Custom Look. If you have questions, call us this week toll free 1-877-367-2279 or direct in Atlanta 678-574-4298. Don't be satisfied with a rubbing situation on your stock insulator or a stop gap type solution. If you are in the Atlanta area, we will do this for you by appointment.

Thanks, Rich

Thanks, RichRich, thanks for the info. I have no problem removing the UHI where the damage has taken place, and in fact have already done so in a _small_ triangle of the worst area affected. But you're saying that the fabric will compress OK in that area where the UHI is removed, and won't be damaged itself by the CAI?

If that works, then I'll try it.

Also, I ordered new UHI retainers based on a post here that do a better job than the crappy factory ones in holding the UHI tightly. Does the kit come with new versions of those as well?

Thanks,

Norm

Norm,

Yes, our UHI, UHI Kit and TLC come complete with new retainer clips. Much better than OEM and a complimenting semi gloss finish to the Products. You also have a choice of head sizes if that is a concern. I like both equally as well.

Rich, this is the red I want. Is this the regular red or the DTR red? And I also see what you mean on the cutouts. I should just cut out both the UHI _AND_ the cover in the areas of contact and leave a gap up to the hood metal at that point?

Thanks again!

Norm, The red pictured is the "Medium Bright Red" on the order form. You make your cuts on the OEM UHI using a utility knife then after you have wrapped the UHI you make cuts in the material over the openings and wrap/glue the material to the back of the UHI same as you would going all the way around the outside edge of the UHI. End result is a very professional finished look.

Aha! Got it. That makes sense, and any "holes" will show the same color as the rest of the wrap. I have a garage worth of parts from Dennis waiting to be installed, but as soon as I'm done with that I hope to get one of these next month.

Woot! I ordered my UHI kit yesterday.

I spoke with Rich about selecting a custom color for the "Supercharged" text... no problem! I just needed to supply the pantone color code I wanted and he'll match the embroidery thread to it. Same goes for the Marauder text.

The possibilities to further customize the liner with other colors is what sold me on this.

Thanks to Rich! Now I'm going to be able to rise my hood at MVIII with a little more pride.
