Anyone who is planning to come through Washington, DC take note. The District has found yet another way to extract taxes from the commuting public .... a $300 fine for not being able to produce your insurance card or proof of insurance. I think that is nearly double the fine for shooting someone in DC.

Warning notices only will be issued from June 15 to July 15; ticketing begins July 16
As part of a concerted effort to reduce the number of motorists who do not have required vehicle insurance in DC, the Metropolitan Police Department will increase enforcement of a District law that requires motor vehicle operators to show proof of insurance. However, police will issue only warning notices during the first 30 days of the enhanced enforcement effort.
Starting June 15, 2005, when Metropolitan Police officers conduct traffic stops or have other contacts in which officers would normally ask for a driver’s license and registration, the officer will also ask for proof of insurance. Under DC law, proof of insurance is defined as “a document issued by an insurance company that lists the name of the insurance company, the policy number, the name or names of the insured, and the period of coverage for the insurance.”
Failure to provide proof of insurance can result in a $300 fine.
From June 15 through July 15, 2005, MPD officers will issue warning notices only to violators. Beginning July 16, 2005, officers will enforce the civil fine that is attached to this infraction.
§ 22-407. Threats to do bodily harm [Formerly § 22-507]
Whoever is convicted in the District of threats to do bodily harm shall be
fined not more than $500 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, in addition thereto, or in lieu thereof, may be required to give bond to keep the peace for a period not exceeding 1 year.

How is the traffic in the DC area on Sundays in the AM? We should be coming through there around 11am.

I would suspect that it would be light to moderate running north to south on a Sunday morning. But, predicting traffic in the DC & Capitol Beltway area is a real crap shoot. I assume that you will be coming down I-95S, to I-495W (toward Silver Spring), to I-66, to Route 28. :dunno: If there is a tie-up, it will likely be at the junction of I-95/495. :D
