Any way It was great being with you all for the few events I did attend:beer: . So if anyone wants to buy my car let me know. I will first put it in the classifieds here on this site in a day or two, then work my way around the advertisement game. GOOD LUCK AND STAY SAFE.

Gas prices wont be like this forever. Cut back on other things IE: drinking, smoking, eating out, use more coupons, go for walks instead of movies. Look at it this way, if you sell the car you will taking a loss in the money you have spent on it, more of a loss than you would by keeping it a buying gas. I have 6 cars and 4 of them are v8 muscle cars and i wont sell them just because of gas prices.

Sorry to hear this. If you have any kind of long commute I can fully undertsand that a 35% increase in weekly fuel cost over the last few months must be tough. Perhaps cutting back on a few other areas as suggested might allow you to hold on to Marauder. But, everyone's situation is different and needs to be respected. Good luck.

Sorry to hear your decision, but fully understandable.
Watching Fox News channel tonight I heard one of the oil executives having made the comment that he doubts that oil will be able to maintain the higher prices it has seen lately and fully expects it to drop back into the $50 a barrel range or lower in the coming months. Obviously we are going to see a short term spike due to Katrina but it shouldn't last that long. Also if you have a chance watch Neil Cavuto on Fox News channel Wednesday at 4 for more insight on oil price futures, should be interesting.
BTW, regular unleaded here in Metro Detroit tonight is now $2.99.
Good Luck!

I have to agree with Zack. Giving up a car such as Marauder just because the price of gas goes up IS retarded. If THAT is the motivator, probably shouldn't of been driving a v8 in the first place.
Me, I could care less whether the price of gas is $25 a tank or $50 a tank. Yeah, it's annoying, but never in my life have I said to myself, damn, that extra $100 a month just broke my back.
Don't know why y'all seem to have it in for the guy, but I'm getting pretty sick of it. I know you all first hand and you're all completely normal, reasonable people. For just as many times as Zack says something that's interpreted wrong or his sense of humor doesn't convey, I could say the same about each of you.

Yeah I have an ex-wife and a Marauder too.....I like the Marauder better. You think gas prices are bad where you are? I filled up this morning - $84.00 Cdn. To each his own, but driving a car for gas mileage makes me sad, so I just shrug and say "what can ya do?". Good luck....maybe a SVT Focus?

i guess i get to keep my Marauder so long as I keep my wife...
all kidding aside, I see Zack's and Logan's point, but I also guess that it is not just the price of gas. Perhaps it was the straw that 'broke the camel's back' but it was not the only reason, for sure. Sometimes life throws us one too many curve balls and we need to take a small step back and regroup in order to take a big step forward.

All the more reason not to get rid of the Merc. After all of that you need to just jump in her and it the highway for a spell. Clears the head and puts a smile on your mug especially when you turn off the radio and just listen to the Flow 40's sing.
Plus you don't have to get a brand spank new 4 banger, a used one will do and you can still keep the MM for the weekend. You might even try putting it back to the stock tune for the time being, if you have a tuner.
I have a running 4 banger pickup, but still use the Marauder as my daily driver.

First off Don't Sell It!!!!!!!
Let it sit with a cover on it and get a $2000.00 4cyl car to comute with or car pool or do public transportation.
Personal story time....
When I was 17 (28 years ago) I bought my 68 big block SS/RS Camaro and through the years have run the gambit of being broke and not broke. When ever I ran out of money and could not afford maintaining it or insuring it I would let it sit and drive a 6 cyl nova, sometimes for long periods of time. What got me through it was just knowing I had my Camaro sitting home under a cover. Now my Camaro is a high 9 second street car that is bitcchin. I can't tell you how many people through the years see it and say something like "I use to have one of these when I was younger". I always reply ..."what the hell happened to it, why don't you have it now and they always say they had to get rid of it for financial reasons and they feel like crap about it. Bottom line....let it sit, skip a few meals, cancel your cable TV, no more beer and suck it up and keep the dam car!

When folks have the money to do these types of things, I say more power to 'em!
But, in all fairness, this is terrible advice to give to someone who is trying to best handle a tough financial situation. In an USA filled with over extended credit this kind of mentality can destroy people.
Until we walk a few feet in MattsMerc shoes, we have no idea what he is dealing with. How about a little sensitivity?
I hope he can work it out and keep the Marauder as well. But, if he can't, that's his business, and who are we to tell him he is wrong only to make him feel bad.

This is probably the worst time to try and sell a Marauder. It won't matter much what features your MM has, or, your actual MPG. Americans are reeling from gas pump prices, and relief is not in sight. Knee jerk reactions will cause your MM to be percieved as a "gas guzzler" due to it's size and muscle car appearance, which is likewise true for the SUV market. 4-bangers are already pulling top dollar prices, and what you get for the MM probably won't help you much in the long run.
I'm not being sentimental about this. Hate to see you go, but try to make it another six months? You could do better, or worse then, but I don't think anyone can predict that far down the road. However, IMHO, if you are pinched for cash flow, selling your MM isn't going to give you any relief, other than taking a car payment off the table. If so, can taking a second job help?
Nonetheless, best wishes.

Matt has to decide what is right for him, he also does not owe us an explanation on his personal life, my thinking is more along the lines of MikesMerc that pathetic is not a friendly way to talk to a friend...would not be my choice of words.
Also I happen to be a very blunt, black or white, yes or no kinda guy, Matt chose to post, his opening post mentioned the price of gas...AND ONLY THE PRICE OF GAS, NO OTHER MOTIVE. Let's get real here, if that is the only reason, then I can certainly understand Zack's statement and agree with Zack...I just would use different language to say the same thing.

Difference extra per year $273.00That's true Mike. I have never understood why people will drive miles out of the way to save a few pennies a gallon. My labor/time costs me more than that to go out of my way. If the price of gas gets to six bucks a gallon, I will keep the cars parked more, cut down on pleasure trips, and take the bus to work some (ick). I love to drive V8s. I am very fortunate to only have a five mile commute to work.
Matt, I hate that you have to sell your Marauder for any reason! I am sure you have taken great care of it and it will be a joy for some lucky bastid to drive. I understand financial pressures, my wife and I have gone through some very very lean times in past years, although things are pretty good now.

I got sucked into the hysteria about the rising gas prices too (I guess we all did) and although I never considered selling my Marauder (gee, that even hurt to type that phrase). I did consider dumping my F150 commuter truck and buying a VW diesel. My accountant (wife) sat me down and ran the numbers- with the hit I'd take on trading in my truck (2005) and buying a new Jetta- I'd end up with twice the mpg (24 vs. 48). It would take me 30 months to break even and I'd lose the practicality of the truck bed. I figure I'll just keep driving and put the money I've saved by quitting tobacco into the tank.

I appreciate your logic, Mike, it all looks better to me when logic is applied. However, gas prices are very dynamic around here. I filled up Monday evening at 2.87.9, this morning it's 3.49.9. I can shrug, say it's only temporary in the aftermath of Katrina. But the more I learn about the aftermath, I can see long term affects. How about the Marauder owner who's on a tight budget? .50-.60 cents per gallon is quite a dent, who knows where it will stop?
I see there's been a bit of spirited debate in the past few hours, and I would expect that. IMHO, you can't absorb all the destruction to life and property from Katrina, without it making you mad as Hell, and wanting to spend that frustration somewhere. It's one thing to hear about a Tsunami in a far away land, it quite another to see neighborhoods I have spent time in, destroyed. Gone. Maybe forever. We're all on pins and needles right now, let's put the needles up, give each other some space. Think twice before you hit the submit button, ask yourself if you really need to post right now. It doesn't always work for me, but I have to keep trying. I won't let anger rule my life, it's such a waste of energy.
Just my .03C, carry on...

If the poster didn't want anyone questioning his stated reason for getting rid of his car then maybe HE shouldn't of brought it up.
No one ever called anyone an idiot. It's pathetic and retarded to use the price of gas to sell your car.
