IMHO, you should try XM too.
I already forgot how to use my CD-changer... :)

Nice!!! I am an ex-thumper....these mods are on my list, but got HP and Torque on the mind still.
Explain: How do the steering wheel buttons still work.....

That looks really cool! I'll bet it sounds even better.

They connect a module to the steering wheel controls. This module then has a wire with an IR sensor on it (the size of a ball point). They run that wire to the overhead console where they drill a tiny hole. They place the IR in the hole and aim it at the remote control sensor on the radio.
Then they program the steering wheel buttons using the remote control that comes with the new head unit.
I decided to change the steering 'mode' button to a mute button.
This cost about $100.

Man I hate you!!!!! That is just what I have been wanting to do. Everyone that I have spoken to says the same thing, that you loose the controls on the steering wheel. At least now I can convince wife.com the she can still grip the wheel to death and still be able to change cd's and stations. Congrats!! its beautiful.

Nice setup! I had a JL Audio Stealthbox in my Super Duty console, it was incredible! They make great stuff! I have an Eclipse, Excelon and all JL system that I took out of my truck, got to get it into the MM, that factory system is lame! I just haven't decided what to do about a sub. Looks like you're using the factory sub location as a vent, maybe? Does it push a good amount of air from that location?
Thanks for the pics and any advice!

JL sub is 10" and sounds really good. Strong bass and thump if you want it.
It is aimed at the factory sub cut-out that goes into car. It comes through, OK but could be better.
For $450 (which I didn't want to spend) they could have made a custom sub, enclosed, with a vented tube going straight to the factory cut-out.

Spare tire was removed for the picture.
It fits perfectly and I always keep it in the trunk.

That is great looking. Does the radio face fold back into the dash?

Yes, the face does goe flush with the dash and it has 3 settings. The picture shows the middle setting. The last setting is fully 90degrees. I don't like that setting because the head unit is too high and the controls are difficult to see.

Looks great, Directedby. This may be a stupid question, as I don't really know car stereos, but is there any type of detachable face plate for those double DIN units?
I'm a little concerned about theft if I decide to follow your lead and put a couple grand into an audio system.

Little late on this one, but it still fits? I'ma hafta keep mine in, that's where I'll be hidin' the V1 from my rents! My mom is the sort of mom that thinks the speed limit is just that, and that no one should even need to go that 'fast' in the first place. She's 52, what can I say.
Wait a minute there, young feller. I'll be 52 in a couple of months, and I just posted about my new top speed. There are a couple of folks here older than that who have SC's on their MM's. We ain't dead just because we've got a few years on us!

Nope, but my mom almost is! She's cool for an old one, but sometimes she gets to me.
But I guess she's ok...if I ever do get a Marauder, I get a discount with her AARP card!

This unit does not have a removable face plate, however other double din units do. It depends on the make. I believe Alipin makes a double din with a detachable face.

Thanks. I'll look around a bit before I make a decision. I have to leave my car in a parking garage all day long while at the office, and while there is some security there, I worry about a nice stereo in the car leading to a break-in.
Did you get an alarm for you car or did you already have one?
