Question How to make a 4r70w "bulletproof"

Hello again Marauderers tech experts, I ask myself what needs a transmission to make it Hard, stronger and last longer and that's why I called to this thread with the title using the description for " BULLETPROOF" which will need a transmission 4R70W/4R75W in mods to make it last longer and very stronger, so I have plans when I did the Overhaul of the BP74i Panther transmission to make several mods so suggestions, advices will be welcome to this thread and for future references to other future newbies to look for information about what to do at the time to modify a 4R70/4R75W transmissions, Marauderers for the time to read and contribute to this thread.

Wrap it in Kevlar? Put a trans cooler that is so big it completely blocks off the radiator.

Get a tune. Don't open up your transmission unless you have to. I love you, bro but you are not pushing enoughto worry about a bullet proof transmission. I have been tempted for years to do the j-mod, though. I think I will do that when I have a free weekend.

I have a TransGo level 1 shift kit.
    (#6178 in black per FPIC)
Call 1-800-FORD-788 and press "1". Have the last 6 of your VIN handy. You will get the numbers for FREE. You'll pay $$$ for the certificate.

MM traded in 8/9/13 @ 128909 miles. It was fun for almost 8 years. I met airmercpun on 1/17/14. He was the new owner of my former ride. -Now gone.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

    Rest In Peace:
    Alex "Marauderboi" Vachon 3/2/92-8/13/10
    Paula Babineau 1/9/67-8/2/11
    Rex Weinbender

See my garage file for part numbers and whatnot.

IMHO, this site- the members that I chat with- and the ones that I now Hang with- are like my 2nd family. There is such an ongoing welcome feeling here that even members who don't or no longer own the MM can feel.

Doing the Jmod will increase the life of the transmission as well as shifting firmer and faster for that slight add of performance.

How does the J mod increase the life of the trans? Just curious as I thought it only made the shifts firmer.

Basically you are following the instructions of the man who designed our trans so you know you are in good hands if you follow the steps correctly.
That, and this is a mechanical change, so you are gaining some "chirp" while improving things and not relying on software.

On a practical level, you are opening up 10 or 11 holes (not sure...haven't done mine yet but its happening in the next week or so) in the valve body
separator plate = increased fluid flow throughout. And, in the process you are doing a fluid drain & fill with new stuff - always nice every now and then.
Finally, if you want to go beyond the accumulator swap you will also replace some wear parts such as the piston, pressure regulator
valve & spring, maybe a pressure control solenoid. All do a favor to the lifespan of the trans.

I'm not an expert (yet) so this is just my .02 but I'm doing a Jmod very soon and
its been on my list for a while. Lots of info here and on TCCoA - just search "jmod".

    Best,
    Jonathan

It takes the internal friction out of the tranny. Less friction means less heat and less wear which equals longer life of the internals.

It's that very improvement in shift firmness that increases longevity. Less slip on the clutches means less wear and less heat generated.

The reason the factory doesn't do it that way is that a majority of people WANT the shifts to be as unnoticeable as possible. Dealers would get too many complaints that "the shifts are too harsh". Just like they got complaints that "the oil pressure is all over the place" when they had real working gauges, so they started installing the fake ones that show the pressure is "perfect" at all times.
