Oh yeah - it's worth it.

Got my clean AudioPhile unit on Friday. Found it on eBAY for $150. Works GREAT. I had to remove a white plastic clip on the bottom/back of the unit so that it would mount level (slide in) in the bay. Mine came out of a totaled 06 Escape with 32000+ miles. bonus: 6 burned cd's were in it! (some girls music)

    -Does play MP3s!
-Does have much better RDS support - scrolls faster +more characters
    -Does have much more power.
-Sounds like the bass and treble are "turned up" from the factory.
    -Steering wheel controls work perfectly.

Now I can put 1000 songs on it easily. Seems to play most bitrates too.

PM me if you want my mint factory Marauder Radio with tape $150 shipped

    03 300A - Number 1727
    - Super Touring - 10k in the best upgrades - 13.8@99 N/A - SOLD

Does it sound better? That would be the only reason I would change mine out.

I noticed a more crisp, clear, and smoother bass. A very well rounded upgrade over stock and still looks stock.

    ^^^^^^ Agreed ^^^^^^

Plug 'n play, an improvement over the '03 OEM unit, but looks and fits like OEM.

Just bought another 6L8T-18C815-FD, the first two didn't work out.

#1, The CD changer didn't work; ate the first CD I tried loading and then malfunctioned.

#2 The unit worked okay, but the thing as damaged in shipment, and the lower left corner of the faceplate was shattered.

Got a refund on both (which I bought through LKQ on e-Bay; good folks, easy to work with, but I digress).

Let's hope third time's a charm, these rascals are getting harder and harder to find, and prices are going up.

6L8T-18C815-FD and FC are the Audiophile units.

5L8T-18C815-CD and CE are the Mach 300 units.

I've not heard a Mach 300, but word is the Audiophile's got more power and better sound.

You guys want to be searching for 06, 07 Esacpe radio - then look to see if it's an audiophile unit.

    Again:
    steering wheel controls will work
    sub woofer works
higher wattage (+cleaner sound) factory looking unit that hooks up with same wire harness. Do loose the 6-CD mount in the trunk, but so what the unit has 6-slot cd loader that easily reads mp3 cd's 500 songs+ on one disc.

Part number listed in my sig is good, try searching for 07 Escape, that's how I found mine. Is a worthwhile painless upgrade (provided you get a working unit! Cheesehead.. .

I got mine through LKQ also. They have a yard here but had to get it overnite from Denver, and did not charge me shipping. They were good people to deal with.

Was wondering if there's any way to integrate the trunk-mounted CD changer, would be kinda neat to have access to 12 CDs.

+1 on the "painless," should be a real simple plug 'n play if I could just get me a good one...

Yep, would recommend LKQ as a used parts house; good folks, very prompt and professional.
