    spark plug gauge

stupid question. the settings are supposed to be .052 to .056. what is the best setting. without mods. my gauges goes from .50 then .55 then .60. the smaller go .04, .05, .07, .08, i'd like to go for the middle somewhere unless someone with better knowledge can steer me in some direction to a good all around setting. and what #'s to use. thanks

What are you trying to do? Why are you replacing plugs. Are you replacing the 100,000 mile platinum plugs with the same thing? You have that many miles on the car? Or are you installing another brand? Any Stage 1 plans in your future?

The AP764 is the Autolite equivalent of the factory-installed plug, so I would say that the factory gap would be best...if you can't get .054, try for .052, then as the plug ages and the gap widens you'll be going closer to the ideal, instead of away from it...

If you are using a flat feeler gauge, you can "stack" them to get the desired thickness. Shoot for the tight side of the range so the gap has some room to "grow" before it goes out of range!
