    Cut coils...revisited.

Has anyone that cut 1 coil had to go to a lower bump stop in the front to prevent bottoming?
Does the front have bump stops?
(Had the shop install my springs so I don't know).
Shared part #'s of stops if needed would be great.
    Thanks.

    Cut coils...revisited.

When you lower the rear to match the front then yes you replace them (on the rear) if you bottom. They are nothing special, just energy suspension ones found in stock at advance. There is none on the front that I recall.

Also if you have an aftermarket diff cover you may need shorter sway bar links out back as the bar sometimes contacts the cover or trim the existing ones like I did. Once again IF it's an issue.

Typically the bump stop on a coilover is found around the shaft between the shock body and the upper mount plate. I don't recall seeing any bump stops on the front control arms.

Edit: here is a good option for shorter rear bump stops if you lower it.

    Ok,
    problem is in the front.
Car rides and handles great as long as the roads are level,
but it seems that going over a 1" imperfection in the road feels like a 4" deep pothole.
Really hits hard for such a small road dip.
Feels like it's bottoming out but I'm sure it's not with just one coil cut.
Considering going back to the factory height coils.
    Anyone else have this problem?
    Solutions?

I have the P.I. Springs (which are much thicker) and 1 coil cut. Car rides good and bumps feel a little worse that factory springs and height but not much worse to complain about. I cut 2 coils b4 on My Grand Marquis springs and the bumps felt so terrible! I think the 05+ P.I. springs are more heavy duty and work better. See if You can locate a pair and go from there.

I have the PI springs in my car as well, one rung cut... no issues what so ever. But htis leaves me at stock ride height...

No mention of the shocks in this thread? They are what control wheel movement and will determine ride quality in conjunction with the spring rate. When you increase spring rate you have to increase damping. That seems to get overlooked . . .

There is no way increasing your spring rate 20% is responsible for destroying the ride quality by itself. The car is telling you the shocks don't work with the spring.

And 12 years. If your combination worked you wouldn't be complaining.

Let's assume for a moment that your 12-year-old shocks still work well (which I think is unlikely, but for the sake of argument). You still increased the spring rate without increasing the damping. And you say the ride is bad . . .

1 MM with full coil cut & stock shocks is was pretty much like you have described. so my other MM I cut slightly morethen 3/4 of a coil just little less then full coil & swaped to KYB's frt shocks the car rides awesome. No more of that hitting a crevice in road & feeling like I hit a sink hole. Best choice I made in regards to lowering my car. The same pot hole in my area in the full coil cut & stock shocks was horrible, hit same pot hole after changing to 3/4 coilcut & KYB's & was 500% better.

+1 on that. Shocks aren't happy. Change to a aftermarket you may find it improves youre ride.

    Ok guys,
    not looking to argue,
looking for a solution as my original post states.
    Points well taken.
Next step will be KYB shocks.
Will update thread when new shock installation and test drive is complete.
    Thanks to all that responded.

......Anybody know where the best price can be found for KYB shocks??

KYB makes two versions, you'll want the "heavy duty" version with more damping. Rock Auto has them also.
