Thread: Stalling out while driving, still... help!

Exclamation Stalling out while driving, still... help!

Several weeks ago I posted about y 03 MM having issues of cutting out, stalling, and running rough at times on the freeway.

Several of you suggested dirty fuel filter, air filter, MAF... I thoroughly cleaned all of them... still having issues.

Someone suggested the IAC valve, replaced that, still having issues.

Motor is stock with 118,000 miles. Always regular oil changes, synthetic. No major engine work or repairs, just the usual plugs, COPs.

I was coming off the freeway yesterday and was turning right, I was coasting through the turn and it shut down, had to put in N quickly and start it back up, which it did no problem. This is maddening.

In the other thread you said the security light on top of the dash flashes when the car was acting up. I didn't catch that before

I was thinking fuel pump , but with the red light makes me think you have a electrical bug...

Check the engine harness, battery cables, grounds, and for giggles swap to another ignition key if it's handy.

What's the most recent thing you've done to the car before this issue flared up?

    No aftermarket alarm?

And check the wiring harness as mentioned in other thread that runs behind the cam covers/heads as this is a known wiring short issue area. You'll have to open up the loom

No aftermarket alarm. Doesnt the red light blink once when the engine starts, it may have been cycling through that while the car was going down the freeway in gear while stalled, and attempting to start, once it did, it shut off.

I checked over the engine harness and all of the grounds and wiring, everything looks ok.

An ODB2 scanner may make short work of this problem. I think Auto Zone will put a scanner on it if you don't own one. At least it might point you in a direction. Just a thought.

Autozone is not the place to go for driveability concerns. A code scanner does nothing for this situation. The only thing you should let a parts store do is sell you parts, nothing more.

Allrighty then....Didn't say that they were going to prop the hood open and start poking around. Just going to throw a scanner on it if it were throwing a code.

I have not checked for codes as I thought that the check engine light would illuminate if any were present?

Crank shaft position sensor, they can fail intermittently and not throw codes, causing car to stumble and stall and restart as yours has. I've had this issue on other cars, same symptoms, no codes, was a ***** to figure out. If harness checks out, that's where I'd look. Good luck.
