Might want to check the dealership for the valet key blank. I don't know if they still sell any Mercury branded stock, but I'd be somewhat surprised if they got rid of it all.

You can get it cut anywhere, and if you have 2 working keys, you can also program it yourself.

If the valet key wasn't programmed, the valet would not be able to drive your car. That won't work...

I believe that you are wrong. I have mine and I can drive my car with it. You just can not open the trunk. And unlock the trunk button on the door.

It must be programmed to that PATS module, then. If it wasn't programmed, the car would not start. An un-programmed key, or key without a chip cannot possibly start a PATS equipped car.

If you got one of those thin Ford keys without a chip - you can get the car to unlock if it is cut properly, but you will never be able to start it.

I just know it came with the car when we picked it up new.

    Correct again.
All new MM's came with two regular keys and one valet key.

My point was that if the key was not a chipped key, or was not programmed to the car.....it wouldn't start the car......that was all.
