First thing first, I just got an 03 Marauder last night. I put maybe 20 miles on a cruise and parked it. Took it to work this morning and 3rd was slipping. It was reving to about 3k then would shift around 45mph. After a couple miles of driving it seemed to go away.
Lunch time came and I took the car out and 3rd slippage was waaayy worse. Drove a few miles and it wasn't clearing up. Maybe a mile later I came to a stop light. Foot off the brake, gas, revs, doesn't move. Try 1,2,D,R nothing. Cycle through again, again, nothing. Turn car off, restart, moves! Few hundred feet, slip, slip slip! 20mph 3k and going nowhere. Turn off car, restart, drive a few hundred feet, slip slip slip!! Repeat, repeat repeat for a few miles til I got back.
So, from what I've read the trans took a dump on me. I want to do an Eaton swap in the near future so I was thinking of getting a performance transmission and having the PO install it to make up for this mess. I;d do it myself but I bought this as a turn key car that I didn't have to mess with yet. I have enough projects and I don't need another.
Another option was to have the PO get another 4R70W most likely from a Vic and throw that in. Or get my money back. The car isn't bad. 134k miles but the original engine was ****ed by a Ford dealer and threw a rod so it has an Aviator engine with around 100k the MM intake.
So, that said, what are some good performance transmissions? I've seen ATF-Speed mentioned, BC Auto, but no actual long term reviews that state the durability/longevity. I'm probably looking for a stage 1 around 5/600hp. I don't think I'll be going above that anytime soon. I don't mind spending money for a GOOD transmission but I want to be sure it's gonna hold up. Altho I'd rather not spend much over the $2k mark.
