    Track times

    My second time ever at the track was this past Friday night at Capitol Raceway in Crofton MD.

    My first time was about a month ago, I posted a 14.5 but only got one run that night. This past weekend we got 3 runs in. I went with 2 buddies, one has a bone stock 04 mustang gt and the other a bone stock Lexus gs400. Both of there best runs of the night were 14.5s.
    My runs were:
    1. 14.589
    2. 14.418
    3. 14.639

    The last run I had wheel spin from trying to leave at to high of a rpm, left at about 3k. The first run was about 1800rpm and the second one was about 2200rpm. Was a cool 80degree night Fri night also. Just glad I got the upper hand on my two friends.

    My mods are 4:10, JLT, Lidio tune, and a emp water pump for what thats worth. Also just put my Kyb shocks on. I had fun tho overall, can't wait to go back, met alot of people that are into the same stuff I'm into and learned a few tips n tricks.

    Can you post the timeslip on this? I'm just trying to see what your times are down the line. I'm confused that I'm running about these times and trapping higher with 3.55s/Zack tune/K&N. I feel like you should be far and away faster.

    How were you leaving around 3k rpms? With a stock converter you should only be able to foot brake and load the converter to about 1800 rpms.

    Biggest tip at Crofton is to AVOID the water box if you are on regular radial tires, if you can't then you need to give the tires a good spin and get the water off them.

    For what it's worth I've done a 15.00 @ 94, 14.55 @ 95 and a 14.38 @ 96 mph all in the same day. 14.25 @ 96 was my best pre 3500 stall and Zack tune mods.

    You know what birdman, I think your right I "thought" I was leaving that high because I felt like I was revving it a lil harder each time and I kinda thought I heard revving a lil higher. But I found it way difficult to get staged quick enough to have time to look down at the rpm gauge to see "exactly" where I was leaving from and pay close enough attention to the light tree to grab a good reaction time. Something I figure I'll get better at once I get more track passes under my belt.

    I'll see if I can't figure this pic posting thing out, I use to be able to post pics no problem i think its something going on with my phone. Maybe there is a way to post them via my photobucket account I'll figure it out later. But I felt I maybe could have grabbed a 14.3-2, who knows. Maybe your reaction times were way better than mine, I had a .571, .471, and my best run was a .264. Best run was also after the longest cool down period and I took about 10psi out the tires. I also thought I heard Lidio is a little bit less aggressive with his tune than Zack so I don't know......maybe your just a better driver lol this is just my second time ever.

    Definitely could use some company, I was the only MM there both times I went. Haven't really got a chance to feel the Kybs n action. I mean they feel fine driving along but I have a certain road around here that with the old shocks the butt end of the car use to be all over the place. The road had bumps and divots while going into turns and really exposed the old shocks. I think if I can handle that road without being all over the place that would be the best test for the Kybs

    Rpms will shoot up quickly when you let off the brake so that may have been what you saw.

    Being new to drag racing don't worry about your reaction time for right now, focus solely on staging and launching. A bad launch will make a run worthless. The MM was the first automatic car I drag raced, any other vehicles were manual, so learning how to pre-load the torque converter to stall speed or flashing the converter should be what you are working on. I practiced launching dozens and dozens of times on the service road next to my work, eventually I stopped looking at the rpms and knew by engine sound and feel of the car when I was about to break traction.

    If I can get my new motor install and tune dialed in I hope to run this fall. Looking to break the 13 sec NA barrier.

    Reaction time does not count against your elapsed time. E/T calculations start only after you hit the gas.

    For comparison's sake, here's my third-fastest time (only slip I could find, the others are very close to this time as well) with a Zack and K&N...

    60' = 2.1228
    330' = 6.1351
    1/8mi = 9.3638 @ 77.07mph
    1/4mi = 14.3836 @ 99.60mph
    R/T = .1645

    I'm really just trying to see where my times are proving advantageous vs. a Lidio w/4.10s.

    What size and brand tires are you running out back?

    My best slip:

    R/T =.264
    60' = 2.104
    330 = 6.101
    1/8 = 9.307@77.45
    1/4 = 14.418@96.48

    I got nitto 555s out back 265/50/18, looks like your top end is better. I've got 98k miles also

    It looks like I just come on a little stronger in the last 1/8th.

    For the record, I just ticked 118k. I think I made these passes around the 100k mark.
