    Also saw one take off from Kadena. Nothing fancy, routine. KC-135 in tow.

    Visited Beale for an afternoon while stationed at Travis AFB California. Beale was out in the middle of nowhere. North of Sacramento. Didn't see SR-71.

    The coolest facts about the SR-71 weren't mentioned in the documentary. The plane leaks fuel all over the runway until the plane gets in the air and actually heats up the airframe to expand and seal the fuel tanks. I've read that there is always a tanker waiting to top off the tanks after takeoff.

    Another thing that wasn't mentioned was that it could stretch almost 3-4 inches in flight due to the heat caused by the friction of the air.
    I've seen that one at the SAC museum a few times too, they really have it displayed well. The whole museum is pretty awesome.
