    Striking out on rear tires!

Just like the subject line says.

35k ago, I tossed a set of 285/50/18 Continental CrossContactUHP's on the back of the Marauder. Bought 'em cheap as hell and have loved 'em. Now they're bald and there's not a reputable 285/50/18 out there that I can seem to find. *yes, I've seen the Maxxis Marauder, no I'm not putting those on my car*

Aside from going the used route on a set of Scorpions or NT404s, which I may just end up doing to keep 285s out back, I'm leaning toward maybe a 265 but I'm not even in love with that idea because the only game in town with those is Nitto.

A 255/55/18 is not gonna make me happy; the DTR I just sold had those on there and it just didn't look tough enough for me.

Does anyone know of a secret stash of new 285s anywhere?

I run 295/45/18 Hankook Ventus ST on my widened rears. Last set of Hankooks I had to change out because they were dry rotting. Had enough tread but age got to them. I had them since right before the Marauderville in Hagerstown, Md.

I was wondering about these vs Nitto's.

OP, I have a set of just like new 265/50's for sale in the classified section

Wonder what that'd look like. That's pretty close other than the height.

edit: Just found this thread and I'm sorta digging the 295s.

Alas, I got a PM earlier linking me to a set of Nitto NT404s on eBay used; throwing an offer his way. We'll see if he takes it. Otherwise, maybe I'll pull the trigger on a set of Hankooks.

My offer on the NT404 was accepted; $150 + the ride for a pair of 2013 DOT-stamped tires with plenty of tread left.

Maybe I could've done a little better, but I'm really fond of the 285s so at least I've got tires for another 20k (I hope).

+1 on 295/45/18 Hankook Ventus ST tires.
My first set lasted a full 36000 miles.
    Reasonably priced.

I will keep that in mind when these 404s bite the dust.

I'm at about 35k on my Continentals. Had I not done many smoky burnouts, I probably would have been able to get 40k.

In a fairly frustrating turn of events, the seller on eBay is now stating that he underestimated the shipping cost and is asking me if I'll let him ship the tires and then we can 'cancel the sale so [he] can recoup some of the listing fees'.

To me this is sleazy, underhanded, and leads me to believe that my unwillingness to do so means I'm in for yet another eBay claim.

Should've just got the Hankook 295s.

    A deal is a deal.

Tell him you'll give a bad review.

    Report him to eBay.

The tires were marked as "shipped" by FedEx, so...maybe he saw the err of his ways.

    We shall see!
