    Ticking got worse, video included

Please refer to my previous thread on my engine bay ticking noise:

    http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forum...d.php?t=100496

So here's the deal, I have a 55 mile commute each way to work. On the way back, I did 60 mph most of the way, going wot twice just to pass a car on two occasions. Not even through 1st gear all the way. Anyway, I get a mile or two out and at idle I hear this noise:

Here is a video of the noise I heard today

    https://youtu.be/rZ6HK5ljXaQ

I got home, shut it down, pulled the belt off and ran the car without the accessories running. No change. My honest assessment is loose torque converter bolts. It happened to my other vehicle before and it sounded just like this. Power doesn't seem to be affected, and the noise reduces when I give it some rpm. Oil pressure is 10 pai at idle in gear, and 32 psi at 1500 rpm driving down the road.

My question is does this transmission have a beauty cover that I can remove to access the converter bolts? I can't really look under there tonight and I got a letter from my apartment complex telling me to stop "working on vehicles".

Please share any info you have. Thanks.

With the car shut off, when you tap on the catalytic converter with a rubber mallet, does it rattle? That sounds like a bad catalytic converter.

If the problem turns out to be the torque converter, you may have my used Precision Industries AODE unit. It is still in good shape. You must pay for shipping.

That was my first thought. When I was a kid my dad had a cracked flexplate on a SB Chevy that was a dead ringer for a rod knock.

Thanks brother. I will keep it in mind if it turns out to be a bad converter. I'm hoping it's just loose bolts.

I pulled the metal access cover to look at the converter bolts. None of them seemed loose. I haven't driven the car for some hours and I started it up to take a video. The sound is not nearly as bad as it was earlier. Here's the video:

Ay this point I'm just going to drive it to work the next 2 days because I have to. Will keep trying to figure it out in the meantime.
