    rethinking my fleet of cars

I have not gotten the Marauder out of storage yet but there is a nice opportunity to get a Porsche which I regret selling 3 years ago. It's not the exact one but better. Something would have to go. My 16k Trilogy Marauder is the likeliest choice....

Hm. not a for sale post but thought I would share. Have not bought the Porsche yet. But time is tight on this one.

If you decide to sell, hopefully someone will have the right amount of coin to make it worth while.

Since you owned one in the past you know all too well they are two totally different cars. Just weigh the pro's and cons of each and your intended usage and that should help you decide (along with the dollar consideration)

Trading the regret of parting ways with one car for the regret of parting ways with another is not a trade I would make.

That's a great point. Are you going to regret getting rid of the Marauder?

Haha... I may have it finished by then, Marty.

Ok, so I have a 2004 F150 which I use as winter driver and utility vehicle. I plan to keep it. I have a project 64 Corvette which is going to be on the road this summer with many loose ends for the rest of my life. It's my personal challenge vehicle which I want to finish and keep as a matter of pride. Then there's the Marauder.

The Porsche I had was a 2007 Cayman S which I sold with 15k miles. I have described it as the perfect car. It's not the ultimate but a great all around car. There is a 2014 model I can get this week with 800 miles on it. Brand new with two years on the warranty. Bare bones, no option car. Just right.

I do suffer with a daily commute of 100 miles round trip. Currently using the truck and occasionally the MM. I spend a lot on fuel.

My issue with keeping the MM which I like very much is when I put a bunch of miles on it the value will plummet. I've got probably $27k into it so I'm underwater already (not that it matters - it's a car).

I really like the MM. My plan was to use it as a weekend cruiser for fun trips. Fits the wife, dog baggage, and is lots of fun to have modified it myself with Marty's help of course). So yes, I would miss it.

But the MM will decay and lose value rapidly. In a perfect world I would keep it and buy the Porsche. But I don't have enough garage space!

Cayman S are cool, and will also lose value and no room for wife, luggage, dog, supplies...I can understand wanting it though, I want one too.. LOL

tough decision but two completely different cars. The Cayman S is a great fun car and a huge value as far as performance and durability goes for track fun. I don't see the MM going up in value or down that much. Most old collectable cars either have next to no miles on them or lots. People will pay a premium for a low mileage 1964 vette but will it really matter whether your vette has 100k or 199k. After 100k miles its usually options and condition not miles that matter. I'd never own a low mileage car as first of all I'd never be able to afford one. Secondly, the minute you drive it around the block it loses value - what's the fun in that. I drive my W30s as often as I can.

It doesn't make sense to get hung up on car value, depreciation, etc. They all cost money and lose value, unless they have lost it already. Then you can agonize over sinking thousands of dollars into a car that isn't worth much (Marauder), or spending big $$ on a car that will lose half its value in a few years (Porsche).

Choose whichever one works best for you, and don't sweat putting miles on it whichever one you decide to keep. Drive the wheels off it!

I would come down firmly on the side of keeping the Marauder if it weren't for your commute issue. It sounds like you don't currently have a car with good fuel economy? Tough call.
