But, that was the era of styling back then.
1958 Chrysler products were pretty much warmed over 57's. 58 Plymouth was a step over the 57, but Dodge, DeSoto, and Chrysler took a step backward.
The 58 Chevy and Pontiac shared a one year body style, which was not the norm back then.
Neither the 57 BelAir nor 59 Impala have anything in common (body, not drivetrain) with the 58 models.
You could almost say the same about the big 59 Fords and Mercs. Very little in common with the 58 and 60 models. (Although, the 59 Ford did offer the 57/58 retractable hardtop option.)
