Since our Etown meet was rained out, I wanted to get on the track at least once in 2014. So this Sunday I went and met up with Derek (Comin in hot) on Sunday morning. Temps were in the low-mid 50s so it was a good day for racing. My previous best run on 255/55 Nitto 420s was a 12.6@109 so my goal was to run faster then that since I am now running 295/45 NT555s.
First run after a 2 hour cool down didn't work out so well since the track was cold and I was pretty much the 3rd car to run for the day so far.
I raced Derek and went a traction limited 13.0 for my first pass.
Second run I faired better. The track had some rubber down and I had a hour cool down. I lined up against a new modded 6.0L GTO.
I also backed my tire psi down from 18psi to 16psi to try and get the car to hook. Well it hooked and I pulled my best 60' time of a 1.73 and went my fastest time of 12.45@108mph. I pulled away from him off the line pretty good, but he started running me down fast after the 60' and reached my rear door before he missed a gear and couldn't recover before the finish.
Last run of the day I decided to try stalling the converter off the line instead of flashing like I usually do. I lined up against a C4 corvette who pulled a great reaction time and even pulled a 1.8 60' time. I pulled a 1.77 60' time and went a little slower at 12.60@107mph. Flashing is a much better method of getting the car off the line and quicker on the top end rather then stalling.
The picture that was taken by the track photographer was my best launch of the day at 1.73 60'. Almost looks like I can get daylight under the front tires with a little more power.
We shall try another meet again in April.
