Did the O-ring EATC repair...few questions.

So I got the correct o-rings from Mcaster-carr, installed them, and still just get AC out of the defrost only. When installing the o-rings, i just basically rolled them on. Would that cause damage to them resulting in them not working? I see some people used some sort of lubrication, with a pick.

Also, do you leave the o-ring in the center, or do you push it towards one side?

When putting the solenoid back, do you keep the spring inside the actual unit, or do you place the spring on the piece that you just put the o-ring on?

The item that installs first, before the spring...which side goes down first?

Just trying to cover all the steps before I buy a new EATC. I went through all 16 pages of the sticky...just needed extra help.

BTW...if anyone needs some o-rings, PM me.

If you haven't figured this out already.......

You have to put the solenoids back together the same way they came apart.

Did you actually look at the the assembly while you were taking it apart?

The o-rings go on the plunger in the same place the old ones came off.

I used a small amount of dielectric grease to lube the o-rings.

My 1st EATC head that I rebuilt did that. I sent that one to a friend of mine and he transferred the solenoids to his faulty EATC head. Now his EATC head works like new.

Call 1-800-FORD-788 and press "1". Have the last 6 of your VIN handy. You will get the numbers for FREE. You'll pay $$$ for the certificate.

MM traded in 8/9/13 @ 128909 miles. It was fun for almost 8 years. I met airmercpun on 1/17/14. He was the new owner of my former ride. -Now gone.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

IMHO, this site- the members that I chat with- and the ones that I now Hang with- are like my 2nd family. There is such an ongoing welcome feeling here that even members who don't or no longer own the MM can feel.

    Update...

So now the floor, defroster, floor/def all work. When I hit AC or MAX AC it goes to the floor now instead of the defroster. Just nothing coming out of the vent still. I chased all the vacuum lines and made sure they were plugged in. Is there anything else that would cause it to not go through the vents?

When I did my first rebuild I used the specified o-rings and one of them ripped when I was putting it on. I swapped to the next size up and they worked great. I've rebuilt 3 EATC units with them and they all work great. I suspect another rebuild taking more caution may fix your problem. It's kind of a pain, but beats the price of a new one.
