    Something Sticky

I noticed yesterday that I have something sticky on half my hood and some of the passenger side fender well. It stood out because the pollen was a lot heaver on the sticky side than the other. I don't know when or where or how this happened.

It may be soda. My guess it was poured on while the car was sitting because I don't see any on the windshield or roof. I have tried some common liquid spray cleaner and all it did was make the sticky stuff cleaner. If I rub hard enough it will come off. (I opened myself for sly comments with that line).

Any suggestions on what I can use to de-sticky the hood?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is it a large area or small spots?

Small spots might be tree sap.

Goof Off is good to use and it won't harm the paint. You can use rubbing alcohol too. Can try road oil and tar remover too.

Will need to apply wax again.

It may be tree sap but since it only covers half the hood and seems to be heaviest in the center I thought maybe soda. It's a zillion small dots of goo.

    Thanks for the help.

    Could also be bee excrement.

If it is tree sap get it off ASAP! Tree sap can and does damage the clearcoat/paint.

Tree sap is my guess, and i would definitely get it off immediately. Could be some sort of over spray from a aerosol can, like lithium grease or something. Maybe someone poured a bottle of soda out on the highway...who knows? Use some awesome cleaner and rewax the area.

Start with the most gentle things first. Once your screw up the paint you cannot go backwards.

I've used goo gone on paint before..it's more of a citrus based cleaner i think..it smells that way anyway..goof off might be more solvent based..have to check the label

I've used Goo Gone and Goof Off on the paint with no problems other than a wax job when your done.

    Goo Gone does smell better.

if it is indeed tree sap, i would hurry up like these guys suggested...

i had some tree sap on my wife's sonata on the front bumper and it set on there for about a week because i thought it was just regular dirt but it ended up taking a little chunk of the paint with it when it finally came off
