Are any of you centri guys running fans on your air-to-air ICs?

Do any of you guys with hair dryers run intercooler fans on your air-to-air intercoolers?

This is mainly a daily driven MM, it has an ice-vex intercooler, haven’t measured it yet, but I'm pretty sure it could be a bit bigger.

It's got the Paxton novi 1200 that is similar to the DR setups, it was actually pieced together from one of his kits.

I am using the SCT iTSX to monitor temps and on a nice 60-65 degree day, after a few WOT bursts the IATs got up to 95ish pretty quick. Also in normal non-spirited driving on the way home after interstate driving and light traffic I seen low 90ish degree IATs as well. In both cases the temps didn't seem to be reduced much with normal driving as I would have imagined it should have.

I had a T-bird SC back in the day with two factory ICs welded together, which doubled its depth but still had small surface area. I used 2 small intercooler fans pushing and pulling on it, because it got crappy flow across the fins and had little surface area. I was more interested in keeping temps down in traffic. I don’t recall specifics, but I know it helped the IATs I logged I that particular setup.

The IC I have in the MM has a lot more surface area than that old setup, so I am wondering if an IC fan would be more of a restriction once up to speed for this particular setup?

Or do I just need a bigger IC?

I'm worried that 30ish degrees over ambient are going to be a problem when its starts getting hot and humid in another month.

I have a centri with no intercooler at the present time, but just bought a trilogy car..I've had iat's up to 120-150..If the tune is proper, it will adjust timing so you will not gain as much power during those times it is hot..it's not ideal, but it is workable for sure. I had plans on adding an intercooler but then this trilogy car came about and..well pulled the trigger

I am not convinced that a fan on a set up like yours will be of any benefit and may even be a detriment.

My small twin air/air runs around engine bay temp, but during a WOT pull climbs to ~140+, which makes me want meth injection or a big front mount.
    I agree with Zack.

My turbo car with a Treadstone 666 is exactly ambient while cruising. After WOT the IAT's only go up about 20-25 degrees.

Yes. You need to tilt the IC forward to be able to fit a 12" fan between it and the frame connector and pull the crash bar out too I would assume.

I also made an air deflector out of angle aluminum to bolt to the bottom of the IC to help force air thru the IC.

Saw 135* at the end of an 11.0 second pass at 21 psi thru the Ice Vex IC. I forget the starting temps which is where the fan helps in staging, not moving.

Box it in. You'll have a better result than with a fan.

As this is my old ride, I did not do data logging like you are. I can tell you that it is probably hotter and more humid here in Florida and power at WOT (seat feel) was less. To be expected when it is hot as crap outside.

With the lack of room in front (keeping it safe with bumper supports), I'm not sure that bigger is better in this case as the IC would be blocked by bumper cover etc. Shields etc, suggested earlier is great when moving(drag strip), not so good, not moving in traffic as it would impede surrounding air flow.

I'm with Zack. Temps sound great.

+1 if you are compelled to do something, direct airflow to a shrouded air/air.
less expensive than a progressive meth kit
