    GRAND NATIONAL chasing

    Well,

Nothing to exciting, just a little excitement for me, that I want to share.

Got my Marauder in Aug 2002. Drive it everyday to work and back.
Already have over 13k miles on it. Enjoyed every mile !

The other day I was driving home and I catch up to a Buick Grand National.

He must have recognized the M'Rauder, because he stepped on it. Black smoke coming from his Duals. We kept accelerating up to appx. 90 mph,
then we had to slow down for traffic.

Once we got another lane we both passed and accelerated again, had to stop for a stop sign.

We both had to turn right.

I took off immediately after he did. I floored it. Spinning tires slightly. rear end whipping around. Red line first shift and second shift. He is pulling away just slightly going uphill. (He did have 1 sec. head start !).

Damn, more traffic at 95 mph. Had to slow down. He is getting into the right turn lane. I pull past him and we exchange quick thumbs up.

Like I said nothing exciting, but I sure did enjoy it.

I don't know what the spec's on the Buick Grand National are, but I feel that I could have caught up to him, if we would have been next to each other.

Happy Driving everybody. Can't wait for the snow to melt. They are prediciting 50's on the weekend for up here.

You were playing with a 13 second V6 with a turbo. Have seen them in proper tune with 11 second times.

Alright, I guess I wasn't doing too bad.

Thanks for the info. I'll be looking for him again.
    He seemed a bit aged.

Just thinking that the "well tuned" Buick Grand National is (do I dare say) faster car, but this particular one, judging by body condition and smoke, is a bit aged and would fun to play with !

    Aged

    Sorry,

Yes the car, not the Driver.
I guess I didn't make that quite clear earlier.
    No offense intended.

I didn't mean you "old and aged" guys.

My memory's a little fuzzy, but I seem to remember the Grand National came in 2 flavors: pretty fast and LOOK OUT!

Back when they were new the "regular" GNs were pretty tough. I had a lot of fun playing with them in various V8 Mustangs. The bad arse GN-X version was Corvette fast and I stayed away from those. Don't see many on the road in these parts anymore.

I remember those. Not to be messed with. Thank god the majority of the ones we may encounter on the daily drive aren't NEW. One of the few autos I might take a left if he takes a right. I would want Macs car before trying that ol' boy.......

I bought a 87 Buick Grand National brand new back in 87. This car was very fast right from the factory. No need for aftermarket mods. 13.8in the.25 .Sold it in 2001 with 35000 miles, for $13500. Paid $17600 for it. Missed it so much I bought a Marauder, which will need some aftermarket mods. But thats part of the fun of owning it, to finish building it.

About two years ago, I witnessed a GN pull low low low low 10-second 1/4-mile times during one of our SLP-sponsored race days. Didn't sound all that bada$$. When the event was over, he piled the family into the car (two young kids and wife) and just headed out onto the highway. About an hour later (I went to pick up my wife), we came across the very same car plodding along at 60-70 mph, absolutely NO SIGN of being that nasty on a track (except for the numbers on the windows!), just out for a Saturday drive (turns out we live close to one another). Now THAT is impressive.

The problem with these motors, though, is that they can tear themselves apart once you start upping the boost and knocking on the 11s. Gaskets, seals, etc... nothing major, but enough to make an oily and/or smoky mess.

Thats the main reason you dont see many on the road any more. Squeezing that many horses out of that small a motor really takes a toll on it. But if you happen to see one in real good shape watch out.

actually guys the GNX is one badass car. They last for a long time and you do see them a lot in the motor city. Wait till woodward cause there is like 50,000,000,000,000 of them and they are all fast as hell!!!

I kinda want one but love American pushrod V8 power more
