Tranny Fluid Change on a Trilogy Car

After the installation of my Ford Racing Deep Tranny Pan I now have the ability to change my tranny fluid relatively easily.

I thought I would pass along my learning experience. The Trilogy blower is a fine albeit large piece of hardware and a large portion of it sits near the tranny fluid dipstick/fill tube.

Fluid out is a snap with the FRP pan with magnetic drain plug. Not a drop spilled versus a pan drop which put about 1/4 quart on my garage floor.

I found a tranny funnel with flexible tubing which is required to thread around the miscellaneous vacuum, egr, etc tubing lurking near the firewall.

Borrowing a technique from work I used a piece of 12 gauge wire to guide the flexible tube into the filler hole.

Fearing I might pull the funnel out I had my "assistant" hand me pre-opened quarts of Mercon V.

End result; no drips, drops or spills of Mercon V.

I benifited tremendously from my struggles of the first fluid change during pan install and figured I would pass along my "knowledge" to save someone cursing, smashing hands, spilling smelly Mercon V all over everything.

While we're on the subject, anyone who has difficulty with the dipstick will find this interesting:

I like that idea. I just started realizing this situation when I did the auxilliary tranny cooler mod. Never really went back there to play before. It really does take some maneuvering of it to get it in. That is the dip stick. I like the flex tubing and funnel. I use a black plastis long neck funnel and bent it to get aroundthe EGR tube. My pan swap will be soon enough. Mercon V really does smell.
