Design of Marauder wheel causes damage to sending units and mounting bands when changing tires.

The Dakota Digital Tire Pressure and Temperature Monitoring System, based on Smartire technology, has worked very well in my Marauder the six months it has been installed. Though pricey (DD has a unique gauge it uses in their system), the same system can be had be buying the new generationi Smartire system, which now has a digital LED display, though it\'s rather large and clunky looking as opposed to the DD digital gauge. The new Gen II Smartire display also has a red trouble indicator, DD has a reverse display flash for out of range readings. Smartire systems run about half as much as the Dakota Digital kit.
Accuracy of readings is right on, and match manual checks of pressures. I recently was able to verify temperature readings were accurate when I carried a sending unit in the cabin. Though it was (correctly) transmitting a 00 presure reading, it was also transmitting a 72 degree cabin temp.
The biggest problem is one unique to the Marauder. Our wheels are sloped from the inner rim to the outer rim, such that the mounting band and sender has to be mounted near the outer rim. It is recommended the band and sender be mounted as near the center of the wheel as possible, to keep it out of harm\'s way when the tire is removed at some future point. The location on the Marauder wheel places it in extremely danger of being hit by tire removing equipment such that either the band is snapped, or the sender is broken. The bands cost $8, the senders cost $44.
So, with Marauder Wheels, you should expect some damage when you replace tires unless luck is on your side. Or you can figure out how to mount the bands on the center of the tire.
