Xcal2

Xcal2.jpg Logging.jpg

Description: The XCalibrator2 is your typical handheld tuner, but instead of just loading a tune, it also allows end user adjustment (well, this capability isn't enabled yet - a firmware update is due out soon) and high speed data logging capability (this was the clincher).

THE TUNE
---------
The Scal2 is really easy to use - plug into the OBDII port (just above the gas pedal) and follow the on-screen instructions. It took all of 5 minutes to do.

I have Lidio's tune installed now and have played around a bit. Everything everyone else has said is absolutely true! The car feels MUCH stronger. Just the transmission operation would be worth it, but more power is a good thing, too No more clunkiness, as the transmission tries to figure out whihc gear to go in, only to flip back down a gear. Upshifts are a fair bit firmer, at WOT.

Put to the test, it showed a healthy gain. I performed a before / after test, to validate the increases that this kit provides. I used a Beltronics VectorFX2, for the purposes of these tests. It should be noted, my test procedure will not elicit the car's best results possible. The plan is to remove as many variables as possible and make the tests as apples-apples, to indentify the net change, caused by the tune.

0-60 decreased by almost 7 tenths, and 1/8 mile decreased by 3 tenths.

DATA LOGGING
---------
The software is easy to install... Just download Live Link off the SCT website (http://www.sctflash.com/downloads.php), and follow the prompts, to install the software and drivers. I was ready (and anxious) to connect everything, and start playing around with it. This is where I encountered a problem...

The SCT Instruction Manual leaves a little to be desired - it's really just an 8.5x11 sheet, with few details on it. What it doesn't tell you, is that if the ignition is not in the ON position, error mesages will pop up. Unfortunately, these error messages don't really help diagnose the problem, either.

Once I got past this, I was off the the races! You are prompted to pick which variables you would like to capture. Sometimes, the variable name is hard to understand, but this is just user experience.

Capturing 5 values at a time, I captured 20 datapoints per second, for over 15 minutes, using an older PIII 600Mhz.

For the price, performance increase and toy-factor, this is a great mod!!!
