Did 03 cars come with a ratchet type parking brake , instead of the rod pull type on 04 cars ?

My 03 MM has the factory vacuum setup, if your park brake is set and you put the car in drive it automatically releases the park brake

Are you wanting to change yours over to a rachet type? Idk if they are different.

Alternative would be to change to the 03 so you don't have to bend down for the rod

I have a 03 with vacuum parts to swap over if that's the way you want to go

I'm still learning too :)

All '03 & '04 MM's came with the ratchet type parking brake pedal assembly. The only difference between the '03 & '04 is the '03 had the vacuum motor for the automatic release. To release the parking brake on all MM's you can use the parking brake release handle.

I converted my '04 non-automatic release to the auto release by adding the vacuum motor to the parking brake assembly, adding the vacuum switch to the gearshift and adding vacuum hose.

I have the '03 parking brake assembly (minus the vacuum motor if your interested.

My 300a only does it once you put it past neutral hitting D

I forgot to ask, was the pod mount on your car? Were you able to just slip the pod onto your assy?

Pod? There are two main parts, the vacuum motor release on the parking brake assembly and the vacuum switch attached to the gearshift assembly.

The vacuum release motor can be removed or installed with the parking brake assembly in the car.

The vacuum switch can be replaced or installed without removing the gearshift assembly.

everything functions as normal . I should have checked the manual first , says that p brake will only release in drive . as far as pod , I believe that's what he s calling the vac. switch . thanx for your input . another mod installed.

I sold marauderrocks51 the parts to convert his 04 to the 300a VACUUM release.

I'm not sure why your calling it a motor, it's just a VACUUM POD, there are no windings in it so I definitely wouldn't call it a motor!

Since its been installed, I just asked HIM if the POD slipped right onto the park brake assembly.

I guess technically it could be called an actuator, since that's the more common word used to describe blend door vacuum pods under the dash of millions of cars :)

Glad the install was super easy for you Craig

Check any FORD Shop Manual and the parking brake release vacuum control motor and the vacuum control motors in the HVAC system are called......... vacuum control motors. Been that way since I was a Lincoln Mercury & Ford technician in the 70's & 80's.

Pods are what a majority of the population of this planet arrived in Jim. There is no way the human race is really this clueless and lacking so much common sense.

Not kidding.
