View Full Version : New Uses for LEAF BLOWER (!)

Having read numerous accounts of using a
leaf blower to keep water spots off of black
paint, I couldn't resist adding my favorite use
of an electric leaf blower (210+ mph TORO)...

You should be outdoors on a nice breezy day.
Take the floor mats out of your Marauder,
open all four doors, turn the leaf blower on
every square foot of carpet and under the seats,
do the seats/crevices front and back, the
dashboard, vents, and headliner...

Step back and take a dep breath and hopefully
a nice breeze with take out the dust away.
You will thank me (and stop thinking that I am nuts)
when you reenter your new smelling Mercury...

And since I mentioned washing the car, I have never
actually seen EVERY step of the ultimate car wash
spelled out in any forum...
*NEVER wash any vehicle in direct SUNLIGHT...the
water dries too fast/spots and the drops act like
magnifying glasses burning the paint.
*USE only a 100% cotton terry towel (sounds easy but
bet you don't have one, EVEN IF it says 100% cotton),
it must have 100% cotton stitching and trim also...
ANY synthetic, even microfiber with scratch.
*PRESOAK the car. Light water pressure over time will
loosen the dirt and make scratching less likely.
*Applying light pressure apply an often rinsed sudsy/soapy
terry towel to the paint. Change towels often (when you
wash and store these towels keep them in a plastic bag
so you don't pickup grit), especially for the lower body,
bumpers, trim, and wheels.
*If you do this from new and never park near any idiot,
go through a commercial car wash, keep the car clean...
you will never need to remove "swirls/scratches" or use
polishing/"wet sanding" waxes...carnauba is the only wax
to touch the paint...I would love to tell my supplier, but
don't want to violate any vendor rules (after all some
pay to be here)...but it is from an enthusiast's catalog
with the initials G.G.

write back if you think I am nuts or not

Welcome to the family, MMMMMMMMarauder. Good advice. I agree that the GG catalog has some great stuff.

Also, if you take the sprayer off your hose and just use the running water, you will get less water beads to deal with.

point is...

the BEST things in life often just come
with a little elbow grease and common sense.

And what is that spotfree car wash selling for?
Like $30???

I AM new to the site...I am such a fanatic that
this may be my last black car (I had a white car,
while not as cool, only needed washing ONCE a month!)
Even in a garage, the MM appears to be a dust magnet.
Before the LEAF BLOWER idea, I could drive myself
nuts using Speed Shine trying to eliminate EVERY single
water drop...

then (in sync with Murphy's Law and physics) the door
handle or trim would wait for you to finish and release a giant
water drop all the way down your paint (another reason
leaf blowers RULE)

OK, now I will sound crazy, but I am serious...did ANYONE
ever bring an electric leaf blower into your house and dust
the stairs/carpets/couches/fireplace? (word of warning -
this WILL clean everything...but it will unleash a lifetime of
dust and a hurricane fury that will wipe out chandeliers and
"former collectibles":stupid: ...ALSO, before you try this, buy the
biggest, baddest whole house fan you can find (I have a 48"
variable speed belt drive in the attic)...and that will vacuum
out most of the airborne debris...

Is that the turbo fan or just stock. I think Kenny Brown is doing mods for a Panther Series whole house fan that will suck up cat, small dogs and some children.

You know, everybody says "Don't wash the car in direct sunlight" but I'd like to know how this is possible. I don't have any patch of shade large enough to hide my 18 foot-long car under, and if I wash at dusk I don't have enough daylight left to complete the job. And no, I'm not getting up at 5:30am to wash my car. I love it and all, but come on.

Actually DIRECT sunlight is the problem...during the summer
NEVER EVER pick a sunny, dry day to wash your car...specifically
avoid being in the SUN, where the sun reflects blindingly on
your paint...this is when energy levels are high enough to
quick dry water spots AND magnify sunlight to paint-cooking
temperatures (in micro-areas)...

A cloudy day is OK...essentially it is TABOO to wash a car from
10:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. The earlier or later the better...
you might consider moving your car to shade after the wash
to take your time detailing it...once again the LEAF BLOWER
makes the spot-free drying of black paint effortless.

someone would react to the use of an electric LEAF BLOWER
to clean the inside of a house...

It is a natural extension of the philosophy of supercharging
everything in your life... :stupid:

Yes, I have used my Craftsman electric leafblower in my house, but I'm not married. I will tell you that it is problematic to use it around the fireplace though. As the black roiling cloud of ashes, dust and dead embers engulfed me, I had that split-second of realization that I had done something very, very stupid -- the sort of feeling that Wiley Coyote in the Roadrunner cartoons has when he realizes that the fuse is about to blow on the stick of dynamite that he's holding onto as he looks pitifully into the camera. On the other hand, part of my brain, despite the incipient disaster, was thinking , "This is way cool, just look at the size of that cloud coming out of my fireplace."

right before the fuse on his stick of dynamite is
about to blow:lol:   :P

That POST made the whole thread worthwhile!

The LEAF BLOWER is the only way a REAL MAN
cleans house or anything in the garage...
