Sir, she backed into you breaking your grill!

I went to an annual trade show at the Exhibition Hall in New Orleans. It's located near the river in the warehouse district.
I usually find a metered spot close by. I see a spot near the corner and I park far enough from the corner to allow another car ample room to park in front of me.
I realize the building looks familiar and then I see the sign on the building above the Marauder, B. Machinery. I grew up with the family that owned it and many years ago they were a customer.
After the show I return to my car and hear a voice - Sir, she backed into you breaking your grill! I look and yep the grill is in pieces. There is an SUV parked in front of me. I ask him did you see it? He says no I heard the crunch and came out. The valet at the hotel across the street did, talk to him.

I ask the valet, Anthony, and he confirms he saw her back into my Marauder, breaking the grill. I asked him did she check for damage? Anthony says yes, but she only looked at her car! Anthony agrees to be a witness.

I search the internet and see that grills are available for $150. I inspect the Marauder for any other damage. I have replaced the grill before and I am not concerned.
The "Sir" man from the B. Machinery buildings' name is Bob, he tells me to call the police, it won't take that long. I see the SUV has Texas plates and decide to call the police.
Bob continues to advocate that I make her pay! Bob lived in the French Quarter and couldn't afford paid parking so he parked on the street. People were constantly smacking his car and he was going after them.

B. Machinery sold all their buildings years ago. I ask Bob about what he does and he takes me on a tour. It's a party venue. They can turn it into anything the customer wants, Mardi Gras or a Jungle, etc.

I remember the story behind B. Machinery. An immigrant machinist who worked there ended up owning the company and he became very successful. My friend Dan's Mom was sent over to the USA from Eastern Europe as a child by her parents to escape the Communist. Her parents were then executed by the Communist, leaving her an orphan. Mr. B adopted her.
We used to work on my friend Dan's Dodge Chargers. Dan had a brown 340 Magnum, black 383 and a yellow 440 Magnum, my favorite. He has a 1962 Impala SS, 409 Dual Quads, 4 on the floor and drag strip delete package. I talked him into bringing it to the drag strip and he let me drive it on the street. After that he put a ZZ 572 crate motor in it! I'd say the bug bit him.

Close to an hour has past and all the things I need to get done are compressing. I tell Bob I cannot wait any longer. Bob says leave her a note, which I do. I call the police to tell them to cancel and they advise if I bring the car to the station they will write it up. A half hour latter the police call to advise they are nearby if I still want them to come by.

It's now late in the evening and my phone rings with a Texas area code! This is Kim, I am a responsible woman with a good reputation and I did not see any damage to your car. Do you have any pics? I tell her yes and I text them advising $150 will take care of the damage.
Kim agrees to pay, text me the next day she mailed the check. I got the check and it cleared!

Bob was a staunch advocate, if it not for him I would not have been made whole.
I also have this feeling I can't shake that B. Machinery was looking after me.

Merry Christmas!

How did she not see that gaping hole in your grille?

As stated, "She only looked at her car", you can't see what you don't look for.

Bad day turned out good. Sounds like Anthony may have a lunch on you in the near future. Good guy, and lucky for you. Happy Holidays.

Uhhh, the person who hits your car is supposed to leave the note. Glad there were witnesses. This kind of crap has happened to me too many times.
