I recieved my cold air kit today and am concerned with the amount of oil on the filter. The bottom of the shipping container actually had oil in it that ran off the filter.

I just got home for a brief visit, and they are currently closed. But I want to wash this thing....think it's ok????

I want to remove some of the oil, but no where in the instructions (yes, I recieved color glossy instructions), does it say the filter is washable.

It doesn't even mention a replacement prt number nor manufacturer.

So, those of you who have theirs alreqady, what did you do? And can I wash this thing tonight???

You can wash and re-oil it using K&N's oil filter cleaner kit. Don't just wash it and stick it on. It's the oil that makes it work and actually filter the crud from your engine. Too much oil will foul your maf, too little will let particles through to damage your engine.

Thanks Logan!

I was hoping you would answer....but damn, that was quick.

So basically, just put it on and hope there is not too much oil on it at this time?

It REALLY isn't that complicated. Just follow the instructions in the K&N filter cleaning kit, they're pretty darned explicit and it's pretty hard to goof up.

If the oil is dripping off the filter as shipped, there's too much on it. You should be able to put your finger on the entire surface and no oil should come off, if it does, there's too much oil in it...

That being said, I've never had an overoiled filter from anyone...

I didn't do anything to the filter, just installed it. Tight fit to say the least. I also relocated the 'white box' to allow for more clearance. Drove it 200 miles today and I love the new deep tone in conjuction with the j-tube being removed last year.

I will dyno the car on tuesday, and post the numbers in a new thread.

I will say however, I am glad I got instructions with this kit, as it is not too difficult to install, it's getting everything to fit right, and the orientation of the 4 bolts to allow the oversized filter to snug up on the inlet and get the hose clamp to hold on correctly.

I will definately be removing the left headlamp each time I run at the track to allow maximum air flow. It's but a 3 minute process, and worth the added flow.

So, how often should the oiling be done? I've yet to go buy filter oil...

When the filter gets dirty. :) On my K&N's, that usually about 10000 miles or so..
