So this has happened a few times now, im on the freeway, doing 70mph on a flat road, and then the engine seem to cut out all of a sudden and run really rough, the factory sensor on the front of the dash that also blinks red when the alarm is on, was also blinking while the engine was cutting out... once I try and give it more gas, the engine comes back on.... today however i was in a parking lot pulling out on to the street and it just died all together, but started right up and drove home fine.

Details -
2003 Marauder
118k miles
RH Tune 91
supreme gas
newish coil packs (5k miles)
weather is cool and dry when this has happened, nothing else wrong with the car otherwise?? This has happened about 4 times in the last two weeks, any help would be appreciated!!!

Need more detailed information. Does it cut out soon after startup? At random? Could be a PATS anti-theft issue. Do you have another ignition key for the car? Check engine light on? etc etc etc. More info please.

Original fuel pump?

yes, original fuel pump. Fuel filter was changed recently.

It does not do it at start up - the engine is fully warm. Yes at random, my first inclination was the security system since the light starts blinking.
NO check engine light at all, running temps are perfect. Plugs, wires, and coilpacks have all been replaced within 7k-8k ago.

This is the same key ive been using forever, and fob works fine?

Thanks guys, it means a lot - I use my car for work and its important i make her last!

Had a fuel pump once turn a 5 hour road trip into a two day 2 dealer trip.

Worked fine when cold, once heated up it intermittently failed along the way.

Only found it by driving with a fuel gage hooked up and ran out the windshield, used the wiper to hold it in place. Little rodent cost me two vacation days and $600 because stealership.

But, it gave me a story I'll never forget grrrrrr :D

PATS will not cause the engine to run rough or stall on a Marauder.

IAC valve perhaps causing the stalling, but unless you were not applying any gas pedal when cruising the IAC would not cause running rough.

Perhaps a TCC malfunction causing converter shuddering when cruising and un-intended lockup in the parking lot causing the stall.

hmmmmm now that i think of it, id have to say I was coasting each time it happened, on the freeway, but still the rpms were up to 1600, even though it was at idle. Is the IAC valve hard to replace? I couldnt find a tutorial here.

IAC is two bolts and a connector.

Check the harness behind the cam cover on the drivers side. It may have rubbed through on the long bolt for the cowl cover.

Also the fuel pressure sensor--opposite side of engine of IAC above-- I have had mine go bad twice same symptom's...

I'd say fuel pump
It could possibly be the small box in the divers side trunk, it's the fuel pump driver. Had a local friend change the box out and it turned out to be the original fuel pump was intermittently shutting down

I'd put a gauge on the fuel rail like as described above

Putting a pump in isn't too bad on these cars, it's a couple hours. Access to a car lift would help tremendously

No CEL? No codes?

Check your gas cap.

Check your air filter. It might be clogged.

Check your gas cap.

Bad gas cap seal would / should generate a CEL.

I was fishing to see if the OP figured out his issue yet. An Emissions leak like a fuel cap would not affect driveability at all and yes FBM would generate a P0442 code.

OP what did you figure out?

I was intrigued as well.... Like turning off old Paul Harvey before hearing "the rest of the story!" Always like to hear how it turned out.

Im still having problems!!! This is what I have done thus far...

checked compression in all cylinders, all equal. Replaced the IAC valve. Cleaned MAF, replaced air filter.

Yesterday as I was making a turn, the engine died, I put it in neutral and started right back up.

Did you check this:

Check the harness behind the cam cover on the drivers side. It may have rubbed through on the long bolt for the cowl cover.

Is this the correct replacement IAC part?

Reading over all the posts in the two threads started by OP the fuel pump has a high probability of being the cause.

Yes, and I'd only use the Motorcraft one.

Closing this thread since you started a new one. Too confusing to merge the two and people don't need to be posting replies in both threads....
