View Full Version : Who needs their PEDALS FIXED? ?
1Marauder

Want to get a West Coast Marauder meet together, and get our PEDALS fixed the proper way, with the Curless brass gear and Midas touch.
Trying to have Curless fly out and perform his LEGENDARY 25 minute fix!
I researched it at Stealerships, and the repair is $472 with their plastic replacement parts.
If we could get 6 or 8 cars together, and some cheap SWest flights, we could have a meet, meet Cureless AND be able to adjust our PEDDALS for a more comfortable ride.
Anyone want to try and do this? If so... Where? Vegas? NorCal? So Cal?
I have two cars and two gears.... :) and am ready to finally have my pedals in the right spot (customized for me). If you have ever been able to drive a car where you can adjust the PEDALS, you know how much more comfortable it is!
Post up if you are interested. Might be a once in a lifetime opportunity... Unless you are going back to a Marauderville he attends.

how hard is it to do it yourself (i live in florida) and what is the benefit of this pedal mod/change, thanks.

Not really hard, another member did mine and one other MM in about 90 mins or so. The stock gear is plastic, over time it can crack and disable the adjustable pedal function, replacing it with Curless's metal gear insures a very long time of being able to move the pedals.

If it doesn't work it will hurt the resale value.
Mine stays at the lowest position and it still works, tried it last night, but I'll replace the gear anyway as I believe in preventative maintenance.

I never use mine so don't even know if it works or not. Seems to be at the right position from the get go for me.

How many of the 27 cars had adjustable pedals?
How many had adjustable seats--did you ever adjust the seats? Did it help your comfort and driving position?
How many had adjustable steering wheels -- and did you adjust the steering wheel? Did it help your comfort and driving position?
Even if you didn't use them, having them "work" isn't a bad thing.
The original query was for those WHO DID want to get their gears fixed AND have a west coast meet.
Soooo... you are a NO?

Its funny to me how the people who don't care get so keyboard happy. No big deal, if you don't care, why post that you don't care? Just curious...
For me, I like all of my options to work on my cars. Weather I use them or not does not matter to me. However, on a long a trip I do use my pedals...

The adjustable pedals are a cool feature, even better that Curless stepped up and addressed another one of our cars flaws.

Why do you have to say everything is flawed on these cars yet you still pour money into it. It was built with off the shelf parts. Not too much was redesigned for it and you expect it to be a canyon carver. Yes, it was overpriced from the get go with hand me down parts. But it wasn't built to be a "road car" . It would have been a $50 k car had it been built and designed the way you wish it was which would have sold even less. The majority of cars built are built like bic lighters. To be disposed of. Cars worth keeping cost more than the majority can afford. Cars are built to be sold and make a profit and to attract the most audience to potentially buy.

Whoa, where did you read "everything is flawed"? I said no such thing. Every car ever made has things wrong with it, some more than others. I am actually pretty impressed with the Panther platform in general, and the Marauder in particular. And yes, it does have some design flaws, just like all cars.
You think there is something wrong with the fact that I have noticed design flaws in my car?? Am I foolish for choosing to fix the root cause rather than put the same poorly-designed part in to fail again?
A short and probably not comprehensive list:
1) Plastic primary chain tensioners
2) undersized brakes
3) horrible axle/bearing design for the intended load
4) plastic pedal gear, LCM, BCM, HVAC O-rings
Really not that long of a list. Every one of these issues I chose to address the right way so it won't annoy me in the future because I intend to keep the car.
I could not care less about the bean counters who dictated what was put into the car, or what it would have cost. I am not interested in apologies or rationalizations for their choices. All I care about is how well my car works and the enjoyment I get out of driving it. If it doesn't work like I want, I will fix it and fix it right. I am a hotrodder, that is what we do. I bought this car because I know what it is, and what it can be made into. I have owned full-frame rear wheel drive cars since I was 17. The Marauder is the ultimate evolution of the platform, not just Panther but full size RWD muscle cars since the 1960's.
I have no regard for the opinion that these cars weren't made to handle. They have arguably one of the best suspensions ever made for a body-on-frame car. All I had to do was change the shocks, springs, sway bars and put in stiffer rear suspension links to get it corner like I wanted. That means the design was sound to begin with, I did not make design changes - just tuning changes.

I love mine. I bought it in Jan. 2004 and paid $28K. I now have 55K miles on it. It is a great car for taking trips and performs great on the Interstates in the mountains or just about anywhere including Hwy 1 between Astoria and San Diego. In 12 years I have spent less than $1000 on repairs other than scheduled maintenance.
But I'm an older guy and don't hammer it much.

Either you don't write what you think, as your comments are errant and specious at best, or you don't think when you write.
You commented in a thread asking people who WANTED their pedals fixed, that you had owned 27 cars, had never adjusted your pedals, and that for you it was a useless option. Which begs the question, "why?" You never stated whether your pedals did, or did not function, but implied (errantly) that in your "high" minded world the option was useless -- again ALL in a thread asking for those who WANT to get their pedals fixed.
And now you comment that you will go out and break everything so we can feel special fixing it?
Someone is definitely special here... Find a mirror to see whom!

BUMPING AND GRINDING!
If we are going to have a west coast meet--we need to start planning. Curless is good end April... So the pedal fix trip is still alive. If we can get this to Match-up with Lowdenex's Car being DYNO'd-- that would be a fun meet.
OTHER IDEAS? The LA guys want to meet as well. Might be fun to have 8 cars storm down I5 in formation... And meet somewhere on the coast. IDEAS?
