I just filled up my first tank with Amoco 93 Ultimate. I know that the car requires Premium and was wondering if any Marauder owner out there had experience or opinions as to which fule was optimal: Mobil versus Amoco versus Sunoco? I live in Michigan so those are my major gas chains. Oh I guess I should add Shell but not that many stations around me.
Also, what about mileage? How long (how many miles) before I start seeing true mileage numbers?

Don't know about my MM yet to notice, but with my 97 CV, HPP I got really good results with BP (which I believe is Amoco). Also Citgo gas seemed to be pretty good.

On another note, if you read the manual it says for "optimal" performance (paraphrasing) use premium gas. Talking to the dealer, you can actually switch between 89 and premium on every other fill up and still not hurt the performance. Now I have not tried this yet (car is still to new and I want the performance). I guess the computer will compensate for 89 but you will not get the best performance.

Anybody experiment with this yet?

I burn Amoco/BP premium and reset my tripometer with ever fillup.I really didn't buy this car for milage, that being said my best is 25MPG and my worst was 18MPG.BUT MY WORST MILAGE WAS MY BEST MILAGE!

That's the way my '94 T-Bird SC worked...premium for "optimal" performance, but you "could" run regular...never tried it, though...

I haven't heard that about our cars, I thought premium was required, but at any rate with Dennis's chip firmly in place, that option goes away...unless you have the custom burn for dual programs...

In my area, all the gas seems to be the same...I just try to avoid the little no-name places like "Try-N-Sav" and "Mega-Lo Mart"...

Mobil 93 octane. So far ave. is about 19.5 mpg overall[had one tank 14.6]. Use Mobil one oil so I figure use Mobil gas, plus you can get it every where.

Yes, a MM in upstate NY! Local [Syracuse NY] dealers have total of 14 still sitting on their lots. Geez, couldn't sell them in summer, now it's winter. Maybe a little advertising would help? Oh yeah, you can now get them for 28,500 with rebates! Only bothers me a little, cause I've been driving mine for 5 months!

Whoever's the cheapest is what gets thrown in my MM, unless it's a place I know I don't trust. Most it's QT.

I've calculated between 18-23 mpg, most of this is stop and go traffic in the city limits, I would set my odometer at fill-up and wait till the low fuel reminder came on and fill-up then, this would only leave me with about 1-1/4 gas in the tank at fill-up, it's OK because I'm locally. I use Amoco Ultimate 93, it's cleaner gas with less additives, No problems at all. I have around 1475 miles on the Marauder.

Around my back yard, CITGO seems to have the best gas and best price per gallon, maybe the best burn per gallon too. The Amoco/BP stations probably have the same quality, but are 2-3 cents per gallon more on average, as much as 5 cents in some "stores." Must be the overhead of stocking frozen pizza and preparing deli fresh lunches on demand. I think CITGO (once Sinclair) still does it's own production from raw oil, and not buying off of Shell or BP. WTF happened to the plain old gas station anyway.

When I ordered Dennis's chip in Sept., his "octane control" was a standard feature. Switch up, chip on. Switch down, what chip? I remember Dennis saying "just in case you got to burn 89 octane, or Mom's running to the store." Imagine that scenario, you'll be grounded for sure.

Some thoughts on mixing octanes...Probably won't be named a cause of any serious problems, generally speaking. However, if you tow much, or, have a need to get into some serious throttle on a frequent/regular basis (on-ramps, stop-lights, we know who we are...) I wouldn't suggest mixing as a regular program. Stick with the 93 or better, you don't want to loose the spontaneous challenge, or the 7-8 cylinders.

These 4.6L DOHC 32V motors have been around for about 10 years or so, in one trim or another. Their "personalities" are well known, "catalogued" so to speak. Should you come to see some lean burn/knock damage down the road, the warranty judge knows what to look for in the tear down.

IMHO.

Been using Sunoco 93 and it is also some of the least expensive around. Just went up 5 cents this week so is now 1.69 per gal. Thanks Venezuela and Iraq! Also another local Sunoco sells 100 LL and 110 leaded (off road use only....right..........) and my old cars like that in about a 4:1 ratio, 4 gals 93 with 1 gal 110.:D

Combination of Amoco Ulitmate and EnMark - both 93 octane. But the EnMark stations around here have Super Tuesday where the price of premium is discounted 7 cents.

With no discount, 93 octane goes for about 1.43 - 1.49 per gallon around here.

Getting 17 MPG city consistently. No hiway miles yet.

I use Quik-Trip and Shell, the two cheapest fuels currently around here at $1.46, 93 octane. With 6500 miles I am averaging 18.6 MPG in urban / city driving in Atlanta.
