Well after a week of reading forums where some had problems with TC and others didn't I decided to pick up my new front tires. I have 255/55r18 on the back and have 245/55r18 up front. It makes my TC act up sadly. I can turn it off which I may just do instead of dealing with figuring out a different size. The stock size worked great with the 255/55s out back but it made the front 235/50r18s look tiny so I decided to bump them up.

Bought them at firestone today, and I don't know if they will let me swap them out but if they will what other sizes may work besides the stock size?

I will guarantee that they will not let you swap sizes due to your error. The difference between a 245/55 and a 255/55 is almost nothing thus your Traction Control light coming on. I guess you should have run a 245/45? Why does everyone want to change the tire sizes so much on these cars? The stock sizes look fine IMO.

Only when your Marauder is lowered.

Can't stop the signal...

The stock tire sizes looked pretty good, but I wanted to lower it to make it look a bit better as Mebot said. It's just preference. I'll just disable the TC and roll it as is. When the time comes to replace th rears I'll go bigger and my problem will be solved.

there really isn't a bigger for the rear than THE 255-55 for a stock 18" rim ..could have possibly gone to a 235/55/18 which would have been taller in the front and right at the cusp of the 3% size difference needed minimum.

In most of the threads I've read, nobody suggests running a 55 series up front when running 255/55/18 in the rear, that should have been obvious since tire sizes are staggered. Especially with a 04 with TC you knew that it needed different series tires to keep it in check :)

Who suggested running the tires you purchased?

Now with the 4x4 truck tires up front you have effectively raised the chassis more than half an inch

235/50/18 = 27.3 inches tall
245/55/18 = 28.6 inches tall

Funny, I asked 8uwith6 for Firestone rear tires this past Friday, I wished you lived closer because I would buy them from you

Maybe you can find a marauder buddy in WA that needs those tires, since it is the stock rear size

Put em on Craigslist and buy the right tires

Exactly ^^^^^^ !!! :P

By my estimates, the 255/55/18 is 29.04 inches tall.
Your current fronts are 245/55/18 and 28.61 inches tall.

The difference is 29.04/28.61 or 1.015% (that's only a 1.5% difference). You need to be in the 3-6 % range to make the Traction Control happy.

255/55-18 is a typical SUV tire size, not passenger car. This often means the sidewall design is "floppy". If your goal has anything to do with how the car drives (as opposed to appearance) this may be something to consider.

The only people that have TC problems is when they DON'T have the required minimum of 3% difference between the front and rear tires.

Guess you missed that............. :D

BTW.. you missed the tire replacement guide that a member put together.........

Confused? You said you wanted to lower it, but you put taller tires on?

Did you mean fill the gap?

Lowered with stock size front / 255 rear:
