Hey all,

So I bought myself a decent OBD 2 Scanner and figured i'd try it out on my 03 MM. Scanned for Powertrain codes.. clean. Ran an ABS/SRS scan and bam C1266. ABS valve power relay circuit failure. I then realized I have never seen the cars ABS light self check, or the Brake Warning light. Went through the service manual and it said disconnect the ABS module to verify the lights illuminate.. they don't. Parking brake doesn't even turn on the brake light.
As I recall (2 months ago I found this) the fuses were all good but I dint break out the multimeter.

I'm guessing the previous owner pulled some shifty fix (removed light bulbs)

Has anyone seen this before? The car is buried in snow and put away for winter right now so I cant do much fault finding at the moment.

Ford Manual says to replace the ECU. should I replace the ABS ECU or the whole Pump & ECU assy?

First check the bulb, then check fuse(s), then check all the connectors in the circuit(s).

Sure does sound like a shady character pulled the bulbs to pawn it off on an unsuspecting buyer. But you can't do much without access to the car. All you can do is put the bulbs back in (might be a good time to swap over to LED dash lights, probably some others burned out after all these years) and follow the troubleshooting steps in the service manual. Certainly checking the obvious like connectors is a good idea. If it gets into the ABS module itself you may need an IDS tool to test.

Good luck in the spring, hope it is a simple fix.

I have a 2003 A and just looked into and found out only the HCU can be purchased around $800 new. The ECU that bolts to the HCE is no longer serviced. I have worked on many ABS unit and find that during the self-check if the HCU is shorted it will take out the ECU. So I would try to get a working unit used if all the power and grounds check out ok. Good Luck.

Yikes! Shorted solenoids are a fact of life, to design the ECU to burn up under those conditions . . . :mad2:

Probably a potted module too, so no chance of repair.

800$ ... woah. Trip to the wrecking yard I think. When I look the part up on Tasca Parts it shows marauder as discontinued.. will a CV or MGM without TCS work? I assume yes but if someone knows otherwise chime in.
