Take it apart, solder the loose components back onto the circuit board.

I was thinking to check all fuses on the fuse box located under dash.

The problem usually is on the PCB in overhead console. Had to get mine fixed last year.

Mine was also not working. Bought a short overhead console out of a crown Victoria for $8. At pick and pull.. Switched the compass from that to mine and it's fine.

Probably not a fuse.

It's actually a component on the PCB. Just fixed one last night.

You'll most likely experience the same problem again.

Do you still have your old one?

I'm guessing from the amount of discussion on this subject it's a common problem with these .. Yes I believe I did save the original.

Assuming you have a short overhead console:

Remove the screw (might be Torx head) at the front on the console close to the windshield
Work your fingers under the left and right sides of the console between the headliner and the console.
Pull down - it will be hard as the clips are in tight.
Disconnect the electrical connectors
You will be able to see the compass assembly.

You can send the compass assembly to me if you want it fixed.

I think I've had Fastblkmerc fix about 5 of them for me so far. All are still operational.

Unsolicited endorsemnt.

If your car has the full length console, there are 3 screws that hold it into place

Once you remove the screws, it will be super tight, pull with a lot of force to remove it!

And it's just as hard to get the clips back in. I was scared to beat on mine, but had to give a sharp hit with the heel of my hand to get it back in. FBM fixed mine about a year ago and still going strong.

You're correct my overhead console is the shorter one

I have the same issue, previous owner told me that you can't get it to work in Europe but I think he just never bothered to try.

Is there a write up available on how take it apart and fix it? I'm scared of breaking anything because I can't simply go to the next pick and pull yard to get spare parts.
