Hey being there alot of us. That have Mercury Marauder's. I want to ask you all. What is the best size Nitto 555 R Drag Radials. To put in the rear. Being I see they only make a Nitto 555 255/40/18 for a regular tire. And 255 is what my BFG G-Force tires are in the rear. Now the Nitto 555 R Drag Radials sizes I see are 275 - 295 and on and on. What would be the right size. That will fit. With the stock 18 Mercury Marauder wheels. And will not rub. And help I would really appreciate it. Thanks alot !

Just so you are aware, Drag radials are terrible even dangerous in the rain/wet and don't last long mileage wise. Just something to consider.

Don't see any 275 or 295 sizes in the Drag Radial 555 Nitto. can you post up a link of where you are looking? 275 will be too short or traction control will go off due to the front tire size.. Must have a 3-6% height difference

Agreed, you're gonna have a bad time. Just get a sticky set of street 555s. I don't know if they make it in Marauder rear sizes, but I've had great luck with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercars.

I was looking in the Nitto Tires page. RubberCtyRauder bud I have a wicked Fox Show car Race car. That I have Mickey Thompson Drag Radials on her. And a Big Block 78 Malibu too. I know Drag Radials don't last more then 20k miles. But I don't drive my Mercury Marauder much. And I am going to buy and beef up everything trans axel fuel system tires. Then a Vortech Supercharger. And keep it under 450 HP. And later on. I will do the bottom end on it. Then bring up the boost. Also thanks Bad S55 I will look into these tires too. SpectraGod you are right Nitto 555 work pretty good.

I was just bringing it to your attention about drag radials and wet. You'll need widened marauder rims to properly fit a drag radial. They tend to be in the 305 or more size for a 18 inch rim and need wider than 8" wide rim to fit. Marauder rims can be widened to 9.5 or will rub

The size you'll want on a widened rim with 555Rs is 305/45ZR18. It's tall, but it's really the only thing you can get. Anything else is too short.

Nitto NT 555's only go to 295 in the 18" size while the Drag Radials go up to 305!!

And then you will want 4:10 gears, because it will be a dog off the line, even with a power adder.

Na I am good on the 4.10 gears. I am leaving the 355. I like how my top end is now. It will leave harder with 4.10's but with a 4 gear 4r70w tranny. Top end will suffer. Now if I get a 6 speed auto from a S-197 Mustang. Then I will add 4.10 gears. And my top end would be great. But for now it will stay 355. And I was looking at the Nitto Web site. And Latemodelrestoration.com page they sell Nitto Tires too.

Lji372 that is the plan. After I beef up everything. Tires rear end fuel system and trans. Also upper and lower + watts link. Then keep her at about 425 to 450 HP. Then save up to do the bottom end. And then the real, fun will start. But I want a Vortech Supercharger.

If you go to 305/45 tire, you will want 4:10's, otherwise it will feel like you have 2:73's out back.

I was fine with my 3:55's too, even with a roots blower, when I had 295/45's, when I switched to DR's, I had to make the change, car became a dog off the line, even with 526 ft lbs of torque, it was a very noticeable difference.

I don't know about top end, I never speed......

The Nitto's are the most real world friendly of the drag radials. Yes you can daily drive on them but expect low life. 5-8k. Less if you are really aggressive.

They are just fine in the rain when they are new but half or less tread, its just best for everyone to park the car at that point if there is cold weather or moisture on the roads.

If you want a really good compromise check out the NT-05's. I run them on my Mustang and they have been fantastic. Their grip is almost that of a drag radial but without the wet weather fear and sidewall looseness. I run auto-x and open track with them.

Will the NT-05 295/45ZR18 fit on a stock wheel and doesn't rub? It may be a rhetorical question but I want to make absolutely sure before I order them.

Will the NT-05 295/45ZR18 fit on a stock wheel?

It will fit , but not recommended on a 8" wide wheel , you need widened wheels 9.5" or 10"

Thanks. Do you know offhand what is the widest size that will fit on a stock wheel please Motown?

The 265/50 18 Nitto 555 is an excellent choice

I want these for the dragstrip and see that the NT-05's are recommended.

I have seen some slight rub marks on my shocks with the standard wheels and Nitto 255/55's. I'm concerned about clearance with widened wheels and never really understood how they could possibly fit. I also have Metco control arms and not sure if they add any clearance issues. I doubt it, but wanted to mention it anyway.

I have 9.5 widened rears and 295/45/18 and there is a slip on spacer over the hub and lugs. Don't know size off hand , prolly 3/16 - 1/4

Yeah a 1/4" spacers will take care of any rubbing issues.
