Added synthetic and this sob starts leaking engine oil from the oil filter housing area. Cleaned the switch and changed filters and leaks slowly from the filter housing AREA. Cant pinpoint it with the car running on the lift, but it appears y'all have had this issue in the past.......
So i looked up on rockauto part numbers
FEL-PRO 70801 {#F65E6A636BA, F6AZ6840BA} It lists one gasket.
I was checking with you guys first to see if thats the most common gasket to leak, car has 195,750 miles:banana2:
Is there just this one gasket in that area?
I know ill have to drain coolant and its due for a oil change.
Please advise
thanks

I would change the whole oil pressure housing. After so many oil changes and it being so hot in that area it starts to crack a little over time...mainly by the oil pressure switch input. I had to change mine on My MGM b4. Good luck!

Replaced mine at 105,000 miles. Now have 192,000. No leaks since.

Hi Brian. I know it's a 2v but I had the oil filter adapter gasket go bad on my grand marquis. Believe it or not, there were two models for it (civilian and p71 I suppose) but it is just 1 gasket. Most likely just one model for the 4v. You do have to drain at least some of the coolant, and changing the oil at this time is preferred.

The oil filter adapter gasket (there's only one) is known to go bad after a while on these cars. I replaced mine with the Fel-Pro gasket. After a few months, I had the leak again. I must have not cleaned the mating surfaces enough or the first gasket was defective from the factory. Long story short, I had to go through the annoying process of changing it again. No more leaks from that area now.
You should drain oil first. Then I usually drain as much coolant from radiator spiggot as I can. Then unbolt the oil filter adapter and prepare to take a shower in some coolant. Make sure to clean the mating surfaces really well. I took a razor blade and very carefully cleaned the surfaces of any gunk or residue. Brake cleaner works well down there too. This job goes much easier if you have a lift and it sounds like you do.

This repair is in my near future.
106K miles.
On the bright side, I'll install a real oil pressure gauge.

Mine started leaking the day AFTER racing it hard at the track. Was two quarts low and it had leaked out all over the floor.

Pretty easy repair. I was sweating it when it happened on my DTR, but it was maybe 20 minutes in and out including the oil change.

Same gasket used on all 4.6 and 5.4L engines, and common issue.
Cheap gasket but does require a coolant drain, so be sure to brush up on 4.6L 4V coolant bleed procedure, make sure not to crossthread or overtighten the oil filter adapter housing bolts.
And if the housing has some aluminum corrosion on it, a die grinder with resurface pad will clean it up right quick just be gentle.

Every aluminum block 4.6l I've owned had this gasket leak around the 100000 mile mark.
My 99 cobra, 93 mark VIII, 03 marauder and 03 Mach 1 all had this leak. The only one that hasn't while I owned it was my 96 tbird with a cast iron block and I had over 200k. I think it has more to do with the aluminum block expanding more while it heat cycles than anything else.
Not difficult to change, just messy. Be careful putting the bolts back in, they like to crossthread.
