View Full Version : Acura Kill!

I was traveling on I-5 near my home coming back from Sacramento today and an Acura flew by me at about 85 when I was doing 75.
I paused a moment and then, noticing that the road was clear of other cars, decided to go in for the kill.
I punched it and in no time caught up to him. He punched his little ricer when I was about 10 car lengths behind him, but he was hopeless. I blew past him at 110 and continued accelerating to 120. The MM was as smooth as glass at speed! Great fun!
I slowed down shortly thereafter to see if he wanted a little more, but he never got close again.
Bye Bye Ricer Boy!
I love this car. Even stock, it's a winner!

 Smooth man...
My car is smooth as glass till about 90...but I can't feel the road so I don't like going past 80 unless i'm on the interstate.
Yet another reason for me to get a Marauder...smoothness I mean, you know the ladies love it;)

Sweet! There have been a few times I found enough open freeway in LA to pull ahead of the crowd and leave the wannabees in the dust. Gotta love it.

Out of curiosity, what kind of Acura was it?

It was a newer one, one step up from the cheapest model I think.
Did you roll up on this guy at speed vs siding up to him and doing it neck and neck?

The lowest model in the lineup is an RSX, so the step above that would be the TSX. Good kill man!

Speaking of Acuras, don't they have a new RWD sedan coming out soon? I think it has a V-6, but given Honda's ability to get 260+ horse out of 6 bangers we might have another sleeper on our hands to contend with.

DanHe saw me coming from about 1/2 mile back and at about 8 car lengths behind him he punched it, but I still blew by him like a train on greased rails! It wasn't even close.

The TL has 270 horses, but it's front wheel...Car and Driver had a mannytrany do 5.7 to 60...6.3 I can believe which is around what some other magazines quote...5.7 seems a little quick. I've been driven around in one as well. The interior is EXTREMELY nice and very well put together with a butt-load of standard options. Like blue-tooth phone connection is standard, first car to have it.
I wasn't extremely impressed with it's go though, didn't feel like 5.7 to 60. More like 6.5...but then again, it had less than 100 miles on it so who knows.

The new Acura is either a new model or an RL replacement. They just came out with the new FWD TL so no changes there for a while.

Nope, the new RL is yet to come, but will be soon. Trust me:up:

That's what I've been saying. Referring to my first post I said the new Acura was coming out soon. Obviously this new car, whether a brand new platform or an RL replacement, isn't on the streets yet.

That is the all new RL coming out soon. I believe it is using a hot-rod version of the 3.5 litre V6, and features standard AWD. This will actually be a real serious AWD system which is going to be amazing. This is going to be nothing like that *cough* real *cough* time *cough* stuff they have on their SUV's............

You got it right junehhan.

Although not fully RWD, at least Acura is finally sending some power back there.

It's finally nice to know that Acura is finally sending some power to their rear wheels. Of course, the NSX is RWD, but that doesn't count since it's intention is clearly as a exotic sports car and also features a mid-engine setup. After reading some information, this sounds like it's going to be an incredibly complex AWD system.

While I think the wood on the dash is too bulk, that is one very attractive car. I wish the Marauder had more destinctive styling like such, but no complaints here, I'm still getting one over everything else. The Trilogy front and rear fascia make a huge difference I think:up:

Aren't the winners suposed to dine on stake & lobster? Good Kill!
I hate to say this but it seems like a sneak attack to me vs a fair fight.
I know that if someone in another Marauder were rolling on me and I didn't decide to react until 8 car lengths I would not want him callng that a kill. Now, if there were some neck and neck stuff gonig on or a little preamble warming up that would be different.
Sorry, Hitchhiker. I am a little sceptical about this one. I am sure that your car is superior to the one that you passed but I don't see how it can be called a kill. :)
Unless my understanding of a kill is all wrong. That could be the case, too.
Best,
Dan

Sure it wasn't the elusive "Type R" accura??? Seems as though every ricer has some manner of "Type R" on their ****box these days. Glad you smoked him!! Mine is brand new, and bone stock...I still love it! Even after driving Kenny Brown 1X, and riding in Kenny Brown #8. Love the stories!

While a lot of that ricer crap is really retarded, a lot of it is made right here in the USA. Believe it or not, those ricers are doing their part to help keep the economy rolling, and I respect them for that. I just wish they would wake up, smell the Folgers, and get some automotive sense knocked into them.

It's really ironic that you should use Folgers in your expression. I wanted to see if it was an American company so I checked on the net. It is an American company but wouldn't it have been funny if it wasn't?
Anyway, what I found was still sadly ironic.

Ricers are just a natural part of the automotive cycle, unfortunately. While youngsters were tripping to the airbrushed carpeted disco vans of the 70s, old folk were lamenting the cherished big engined muscle car. While youngsters were tripping on the small body big engine muscle-cars of the 60s, old folks were lamenting their cherished chopped/frenched/whatever'ed 40s and 50s coupes. While the youngsters were tripping on their hot-rodded 40s and 50s coupes, etc.etc.etc.etc...
It's just a cycle... the new generation will always be involved in an aspect of the automotive culture that leaves the previous generation shaking their heads. It's inevitable. It's always the same seed, though... the young generation looks for a cheap way to be distinctive, as the previous 'hot stuff' becomes too $$ to be accessible. So today's 'wave' is the cheapo import ride, with the left-over $$ going towards customization.
Nothing we can do about it. Myself, I just accept my place in this chain of life as being part of that generation that goes "WTF???" every time they hear the coffee-can exhaust system and do my part to ridicule them as I have been sociologically programmed. ;)
... and I bask in the smug happiness of knowing that they too will be faced with the next generation's attempt at individualism in the automotive realm! One can only wonder how awful THAT will be!! :)

As long as Hitchhiker didn't have more than 10 mph or so on him when he hit it, the little ****box should have been able to accelerate to about the same speed in 8 or so lengths. It's kind of telling that he wouldn't give you a shot at a real 'heads up' match - i think he went home and cried to his momma. BTW, I have a couple of friends who have built somw reasonably quick and impressive little rice rockets, and if you use common sense instead of neon & potato-cannon exhaust tips, you can build a pretty quick little car. You just can't fix what's really broken (FWD-who thought that was a good idea for drag racing, where weight transfer is everything?) And I just can't keep a straight face when I hear them call a 2.2L 4 cylinder a 'big block' :shake: :bs:

Dan, I actually had no idea Folgers was American or not. However, it is my brand of coffee that I drink, so I mentioned it.
I figured you were just using it as a general term. :)

I have two things to say about this story:
#1. Nice win HH.
#2. Jim, I'm not trying to talk down to you, but 90 MPH is MORE than fast enough for someone like you since you only have at most one year of daily driving experience. Trust me on this buddy. No offence intended. I know you to be quite mature for your age, and you really amaze me how staight your head is on for a teenager, but when it comes to driving, experience is a lot. Please don't forget that. Sorry to sound like your parent, but it needs to be said. Peace.
