Folks,

When I start the marauder, I get this clicking sound that seems to be coming from the lower left front of the car. When I hit 2k rpm on the freeway, I hear this clicking whirring sound. I almost thought it was a pulley going bad, however when in the driveway I bring the rpm up t 3k, no sound, engine strong as ever. Could it be the motor for the ABS or the pump for air bags. Around town there is no sound at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Randy

P.S. I took the car to Ford and got this guy named "Tim", he did not even know what that thing was in the engine compartment ... the ABS unit !?!?! He said it was the air pump for the rear air bags ... NEXT guy please!

If it only happens when moving I bet it's the front hub/bearing going bad.

It makes the noise when the car is still and when starting the car. Not a hub thing

Very possible it is the air pump for the rear air suspension. Unplug the compressor and test it.

How do you test it?????

In the OP case, unplug the compressor and see if the noise happens.

The air compressor for the rear springs is underneath the air filter box. The filter box can be removed by taking off three nuts from within the wheel well (or in my case, just pull it out because there's nothing left to hold it to the wheel well). Once you have it pulled out, you can just unplug the compressor and see what happens.

While you have it opened up, I'd recommend drilling a drain hole in the tub that the compressor sits in. Water has a tendency to collect in there and ruin the compressor. I've had to replace a compressor and drill holes myself due to excessive water pooling.

You can and should drill multiple holes.

Great, I plan to drill holes, also I have cold air replacement air filter from k&n, makes really easy to get to air compressor. Thanks all!

Howdy folks,

The plot thickens, I disconnected the compressor after turning of the trunk switch, and the problem still exists. This morning I was off to school, sticking to side roads to keep my speed down, it still seems to start clicking at about 2000 rpm. I have a local off road race shop that takes care of my marauder and see if they can locate it. Some said wait till it breaks, but that is not an option.:bigcry:

So, final story was oil failure to the heads !! Just got a BFN long block installed and am wondering the best way to break her in. They are putting in the break in oil for the first 100 miles and then ???

Thanks folks

dont stay at a certain rpm for an extended period of time. Like long highway driving. For the first 500 miles. But everyone has a different view on this subject it seems.

Take it to the track and let it eat ;)

Check your oil and coolant levels daily

I would change the oil at 100. 300. 1000. 1500. And then every 3000 with motorcraft non synthetic oil and filters

+1 on inconsistent rpm, after 300 miles I would start doing short blasts of 1/2 throttle to help seat the rings

I would hold out going WOT until 500 miles, then just drive normally or as you please after 500

BFN I bet that was expensive!

$5520 out the door, but then I have a "new" marauder!!!

And thanks for the advice!!
