Started the Marauder Saturday morning. Car was running real rough,
making a noise and under power. I had the car towed in today.
It looks like there is a problem with the #8 cylinder.
Will know more tomorrow. Engine almost has 192,000 miles.

#8 valve prolly toast . It's one of the poor cooling areas in the heads . I would do the rear head cooling mod while down

Just change the cop & spark plug in cylinder #8 (driver side rear) will fix issue

And risk hitting the piston and cause worse damage. Glad you are not my mechanic

The man asked if everyone had the same issue before, so I responded to him not u. I've had this issue in 2 different panthers, so I responded to his question. I wasn't shooting your response down bruh. Plus the car already in the shop. He will find out the problem soon anyways. So go chill out my dude SMFH

I'm not your bruh. MM and GM entirely different motors. And it's a known issue that can develop on cyl 8 due to a cooling dead zone in the head. Thus the rear head cooling mod. Throwing a cop and plug in without further checking is stupid. Yes , early heads had some 4 thread holes and could eject a plug which would cause a cylinder failure abd take the cop too

I had a similiar issue on #3. Removed coil cover to find a blown out spark plug. Time-cert and an hour later (and new plug and coil of course) and it's running like a top with 10 psi.

He never asked anyone anything, he made a blanket statement, you popped in with a marginal repair that could cause more damage than it would fix.

At least you got the "car is in the shop" part right.

Thanks for at least trying to help though.....

You quoted me in your post not him. You called me bruh, this is not ricer.net I don't care what you think of me. You gave poor info just because you think his problem is the same as yours was. You told him to put parts in sight unseen.

You don't have to like me , I wasn't trying to get you to like me.

Funny how some folk type and explain how bad it's running, have to get it towed because how bad it's performing. They post here expecting a miracle diagnosis, yet it's in da shop getting a leak down, probably a plug and coil to fix it. It's really easy to speculate what all could be wrong, but you have to start with the basics first. Heck it could have the wrong sized tires on the front of a 04 and make you think it has coil issues

Just picked up a blown silver car in Miami. He said under a load it'll pop and sputter....

Not my first boosted car, I have many turbo cars.

Plugs were at .035 to .042 one was correct at .028 , really makes me think twice who really knows how to fix and work on these / or any car....

8 new plugs and 1 new coil, runs good.

It's the simple things that add up to a bad running driving car

Let us know the diagnosis of the car, then we can advise from there

In my original post I was making a statement about what happened with the car. Hopefully it is only a blown plug. I will inform the group when the
tech finishes his assessment.

Further, I was looking at used engines.
I found a Aviator engine with 70,000 miles for $1350 locally.
What do you have to do to make the Aviator engine turn into a Marauder engine?

Great deal.
Intake, oil pan, oil pickup tube, valve covers.

I will inform the group when the
tech finishes his assessment. Please do. My money is on a loss of compression on #8 as was suggested before this thread got derailed, but I'm hoping for a cheaper fix for you.

Not sure how good you are at spinning wrenches, but if your problem is indeed the #8, check this thread (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=67104) out. I don't consider myself a good wrench (at all) and was able to perform this repair on my car only using a few lifelines. Ended up saving a good deal of cash.

Final result was a partially blown Spark plug.
Valve spring was not bent.
The tech used part 2128 1/2" spark plug thread insert $22.98
4L7Z*12029*AB coil assembly - $78.58
AGSF*32W*M SP505 Spark Plug - $5.26
