Thinking of gutting front cats, cutting rear cats & either putting Aeros 3030 or Magnaflows on there! My question is will the CEL come on? An what's the best approach with the mufflers? Not really worried about emission.

I just cut the rear cats and have aero turbines and res deleted tips, stock everything els. Sounds great!
CEL won't come on if you cut only the rear cats

First remove rear cats see how you like it. Then you could remove the resonators out of the tips for a bit more drone tone. Adding aeros with this would be a pretty loud setup

If you gut the front cats it will sound terrible.
Eliminate the rear cats, see how it sounds then choose a muffler.

I would delete the rear cats, and go with magnaflows. Jmo Very limited drone.

Leave it stock, a loud slow marauder is not cool.

Rear cat delete with Magnaflow 18" Satin series straight through, acoustical fiber fill got me a ton of compliments. Now I have SW headers and full system with the same Magnaflows and it is perfect. No drone. Reasonably quiet at idle. Mean as hell at WOT. I love it.

Delete rear cats along with Flowmaster Delta 50's. It mimics the marauder exhast and amplifies it. Wasn't a lot of money and sounded good in my opinion.

+1.... 40 or 50, res delete, extend tips out an extra inch.

Thanks too you all for your replys. I'm looking too go with either AERO 3030 or SLP Loudmouth or the Magnaflows. I'm going too cut the rear cat & keep the factory tips. How do most of the cars sound with the res tips?

Aero AT3030 is a 3" diameter inlet/outlet muffler, that's too big to match up even closely to the stock pipe. Go with an AT2525.
When I first put on my Aeros, I had the second set of cats removed and res-delete tips. Sounded great, a few years down the road I got rid of all the stock piping and went to 2.5" custom mandrel bent stainless from exhaust manifolds to tips, two highflow Magnaflow cats and H-pipe. Now its stupid loud but I'm fine with it.
2nd set of cats removed, Aero AT2525 mufflers and res-delete tips, everything else is stock.

Nothing stock besides the exhaust manifolds

Mine has the Magnaflows and I love the way it sounds.

The only thing Mercury spent more money on , in the Mercury Marauder project , than the exhaust , was the wheels!
That was per Steve Babcock!

I saved up and put Kooks headers X-pipe with high flow cats and Borla Pro-XS mufflers. And got the tailpipes done 2 1/2 custom. And reused my stock 3 inch tips. Car sounds beautiful make great power. It wasn't cheap. But not as much as Stainless kit. They make a kit from front to back. But it is way more then my Kooks set up. But if I were you. Leave it stock. And save up. Like I did. It is a night and day difference. When you put a full set up. And it will sound like a 4 door Cobra. And run hard like one too.

I had one Marauder with Flowmaster 40 with the resonators and one Maraduer with Flowmaster 40 without the resonators.
My exhaust guy wanted me to try it with the resonators in place before I switched tips to res delete.
The resonator seems to keep the rumble/growl sounds trapped and under the car, which meant that I could hear the growl/rumble in the cabin/car, but not really outside. Car was louder inside.
The res delete car simple rumbles/growls outside... But not as loud inside as the sound is not trapped under/in the car. Car was a little quieter inside.
Again, many folks extend the tips out the back another inch--to get the tips (and sound) fully out the back from under the bumper/car to avoid drone at speeds.
I did this too on both and LOVE the sounds. Slight burble/rumble at idle, nice hearty mellow sound during reg driving, and purposefully agressive at WOT.
My Fav is to hit it while under an overpass, and hear the bellow. Pure joy.

Get rid of your H pipe and add an X pipe, this will reduce the old school drone and will add horse power.
RubberCtyRauder

X pipe is raspier than h pipe on marauders. I'm switching back to an h pipe. The hp difference is so minimal. It's not like adding headers. You'll never know the difference h to x

None. They made it sound as good as they could within EPA constraints. Sounds better with aftermarket muffs. is my point. Our modded cars are technically so illegal it's not even funny. But we should all be happy we don't live in The People's Republic of Great Britain with their Ministry of Transportation (MOT) inspections. They will take your car off the road for a small rust hole in the floor, headlights that aren't perfectly aimed, etc, etc....
Superchargers, 4.10's that reduce mileage, custom tunes? Forget it!

I forgot who's car you had. Do you know if the previous owner had all of the exhaust piping replaced? I believe your car has Kooks headers.
When I am above 80 the drone and tone mellows out. My gf loves to ride in the car, she says the exhaust is soothing and rhythmic to her which oddly enough she can easily fall asleep when riding for more than 45 mins.

He said he replaced all the exhaust all the way over the rear axle and added those Aeros. I prefer the mellow drone of a Flowmaster. However, I am a struggling graduate student.
Thank God for a girlfriend that loves your car.

If just the headers, yes Kooks and SW can be had for under a grand. Now factor in the cost of labor for install, possible additional exhaust work needed for it to connect and a dyno tune is required if you want any benefit of increased power and safe AFR.

^^^^ What he said
You cant just slap them on..at min. a tune is needed as the O2 sensor is moved further back and a CEL will light up. There is really nothing cheap for Marauders. from time to time used ones come for sale here is your best bet or possibly ebay for used kooks or stainless works. Mos Speed Shop in the vendors section here is a SW dealer and gets alot better pricing than MOst retailers of SW and are sent direct to you.
