Can the tailshaft be replaced on an MM while the trans is in the car?
process should be: mark driveshaft, pull driveshaft, R&R tailshaft, reinstall driveshaft.
Wasn't sure if the top tailshaft bolts were accessible? Any ever done this?
Thanks!

I did mine on my crown vic about 3 months ago. Had to replace the gasket. I did remove the transmission cross member for more access. Not sure if its the same for a marauder. Transmission was left untouched.

You will have to drop the transmission cross member.

If you back there farting around with your tail shaft you might want to consider the forced tail shaft lube mod. There maybe a 'How to' in the archives.

I had the tail shaft leaking, so when I sourced the upgraded version of that part , I also got the "forced lube mod"
Upgrade .
Blue Oval Chips will reimburse you for a good core, mine was like 165.00 exchange including the FLM & Mega rear seal!
No leaks!!!

A leaking tail housing is normally due to one of three things: a worn tail housing bushing, a worn slip yoke, or bad u-joints. This normally causes a vibration wearing out the seal, The seal is really never the problem, the seal goes because something else is wrong.

As stated the tail shaft will not come out unless the Xmember is dropped to gain access to remove the tail shaft , i got one of blue ovals forced lube shafts as well.

While I'm down under, I will check the u-joints. Other than extra rotational movement between the output shaft and the slip yoke, is there anything else I be looking for to indicate too much wear?
It is good to know that I will have to remove the cross member to access the tailshaft.

I paid very close to $2000 to have that transmission rebuilt by a reputable shop, I'm sure they change the bushing in the housing. Granted that was somewhere around 130,000 miles IIRC.
The crossmember is a bear to remove. You need an air chisel. I've never remove three of them and they all sucked.

I have always removed the crossmember with a huge pry bar. Never needed an air chisel.
If you're running 4.10 gears the driveshaft harmonics can cause a vibration that screws up the tailshaft housing. Used to be able to put in an aftermarket driveshaft to fix it, but I think they're discontinued.

Mark Williams , Strange , Denneys drive shaft shop can all make a custom shaft for the Marauder given the measurements.

Nope, not me I have 3.73's AND an Alcoa MMC (better than Aluminum) driveshaft.
My tailshaft is fine, this one I pulled off of a used 2003 trans I had for a friend.
Thanks all for the tips - crossmember has to come out...

The old dynotech driveshafts were mmc. That's the ones that are no longer available.

I have a custom Mark Williams 4" MMC driveshaft. It was almost $1000.00
