How many of you have removed or had them removed the E-Brake Shoes?

Why remove a safety feature? It doesn't take much to break a parking pawl and bye bye car goes a rolling. They are not hard to replace

I replaced mine and have been good for 5 years so far.

If you use it all the time you won't have any problems.

I'm replacing the shoes and hardware tomorrow. Suddenly stopped working.

I live in a pretty flat area, but in a hilly area it's not an option to have it working unless you want to break your transmission. It could strand you if there is enough pressure on the mechanism.

Mine make the clickety clack, but I can't get the rotor off to replace them, it's nearly welded to the axle it seems

If a rubber mallet doesn't get them off, you may need a 5 pound sledge and sacrifice the rotors.

You need to back off the e brakes to slide it off, prolly wore a groove so niw there is a lip on the ebrake drum. Ebrake us adjusted by star wheel from back side thru rubber oval plug

4# hammer didn't do it. Next opportunity, I'll see if backing the star up helps.

My e-brake is mostly disassembled. It pretty much just fell apart and at the time I couldn't seem to locate replacement parts. Getting it reassembled is on my to-do list, but nowhere near the top. I think I still have the pieces sitting in a box somewhere.

Are these the original rotors? Since you don't normally use the e brake with the vehicle moving, I wouldn't think a groove would be in them. Possible I guess...

They still get a lip because they need to be close to work right. They will rub but you'll never know it. Take a look next time you pull yours, especially if original and many miles. That's why there is an adjuster. Ebrake only travel so far, if too far away they don't hold

I'll look tomorrow. I finally got the hardware kit today for this repair as well as some caliper paint. My ebrake stopped working recently.

With the vehicle jacked up (both rear wheels) and jackstands in place, remove the wheel and re-install the lug nuts and put the vehicle in Drive and see if they break loose. You might use some blaster or WD 40 may be helpful to let soak over night.
Good Luck!

The hardware kit can be found any local auto parts store. Comes with everything you need except the actual shoes...

The FOMOCO kit can't. I ordered it online and picked it up at a local dealer. Convenient. And cheap.

Hit it hard enough it will jar loose. Pads or no pads.

Is rotor seized on axle or does rotor move but Ebrake shoes prevent removal?

If frozen to axle, do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtsTJCRljAs less collateral damage than hammers.

You should be hitting the front of the rotor between the studs to loosen it.

I heated my rear rotors up with a blow torch and still couldnt get them off when I was doing my axle shafts. It took a lot to get em off
