So i detailed the inside of the marauder.
YUK.
I'm the second owner of this car, so the original old dude that had it must of rolled his own smokes, then chewed up the butts and spit the juices onto the steering wheel.
I bet i coulda filed a gallon zip lock bag with tobacco leaves that have immersed themselves into every nook and cranny of the car. The steering wheel had a solid coating of nicotine juice so thick you couldn't even read the cruise/radio buttons anymore. I honestly thought they were just worn off, but after a half hour scrubbing with ACETONE they look brand new.
My hands are still sticky with residual nicotine....

Acetone can dissolve plastics or mar them. I dont recommend it for interior work

Think I've heard of detail shops using some kind of special machine to get rid of cigarette smoke. Got any before and after pics?

Nothing beats a freshly cleaned interior. The day I cleaned mine I was very happy it took a few hours but well worth it

Sorry, didn't think of taking pictures. But I'll tell you that it was so bad I didn't know the buttons on the steering wheel lit up ha ha. Acetone wasn't my first choice, I bought heavy duty cleaning amorall wipes, but they couldn't do anything to the gunk.

Funny thing is, it doesn't smell like a smokers car. Maybe chewing tobacco?

I've only had my car for 3 months and it's full of dog hair...

Regular 409 will cut through nicotine, or Krudd kutter will. I used it while i was a Hvac service tech in the field. Though i have never used it on a car interior.

I wonder if 409's harsh on automotive interior surfaces. It's good stuff around the house and on painted steel, I've used it to clean the interior of our tanks in the Army.

Spill one spitter and the interior will never smell the same.

The soft-feeling coating on the buttons on my steering wheel softened up too much after a while, and started to gum up on their own. I don't smoke or chew tobacco in my car, but whatever that coating is it isn't very durable.
I wonder if you scrubbed that coating clean off. I suppose the buttons would be smooth, hard plastic underneath.

Gross car stories! I like this thread. Rented a town car in Nevada some 35 years ago when it was 105 degrees outside. When you opened the door after sitting in the sun all day, it would gag a maggot. Found the source-----a previous renter had a serious nose picking habit. The entire rear of the steering wheel was covered with thousands of snot buggers like bubble gum under a school chair. :puke::puke::puke:

Didn't give it a lick test, but still remember the disgusting smell. It would have gagged a Rotor-Rooter man.
