View Full Version : Yes, another eibach thread

I know this has been brought up in the past, most of the threads are full of "I have a cut coil" or try "coilsprings.com" I'm not searching for that. I want actual eibach spring users response. Mine has a cut coil and driver side seems to have relaxed more than pass. side. I want to fix it. I have a set of new eibachs and would like more recent info if you like them or hate them etc. I don't need links to old threads, I've seen them and they full of mixed info from those that don't even have eibachs. Since they have been discontinued for some years now, those that have them probably have a good idea by now how they like or dislike. I don't drive my car daily so Im not looking for a Cadillac ride, but I don't want it to ride like my F350 straight axle.
Appreciate any recent info

I don't have them but have ridden in several cars that had them. Bump stops aren't a pleasant riding experience.

I've got the full works on my car currently. Addcos Metcos KYBs Eibachs.
I formally had the Naake QA1 single adjustables, all other things the same.
And formally had Stock springs and KYB's, all other things the same.
Here is what I can tell you about the spring rates;
The Eibachs are the stiffest
Stock springs are in the middle ground, and will get stiffer when cut
Naake springs are much softer than stock
What I found with the QA1's, much to my dislike, was that in any of the softer shock settings comfort on the street was acceptable, but bounce was a serious issue and there was too much movement when transitioning in and out of driveways. The bounce was worse than most town cars I've driven. In the stiffer shock settings ride was far too harsh, like there was no suspension at all. I feel that ultimately the spring rate was too soft to allow good performance on the street.
With stock springs and KYBs things were great. A spring rate in the proper ball park gave the car a perfect street ride and good performance/track ride.
I acquired a set of Eibachs and put them to use. What I found now is that the Eibachs are maybe a little bit on the too stiff side, at least when coupled with all the other suspension stiffening parts. Street ride is maybe a little bumpier than I'd like, but barely. Performance on and off the track is top notch however.
If I was to do it all over again I would just cut springs for a spring rate that's between Eibach and stock instead of pining over the Eibachs. But if you've got them, enjoy them, put them on, you'll like them, you'll get to say your one of the few who uses them.
The QA1 rate was so far out of the ballpark IMO that I couldn't enjoy driving the car. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that about the Eibachs, maybe a touch on the stiff side, but a great setup still.
If you've got them do it.
If you don't have them, don't obsess and move on.

Thanks so far for info..I've heard the QA1 got better, but initially they were constantly having to be adjusted etc. I'm not looking QA1 or Penske custom ones..Im either going to go with what I have (eibach) or go with Ridetech adjustable coil (HQ series).
Make sure the rear swat bar is tightened down correctly before making changes to the front
Yes, it can affect front ride height

Thanks Zack, I didn't know rear sway bar could effect, I knew rear ride height can effect front height as it transfers weight front or back if going higher or lower. As in my case, lowered rear height and the front raised.

I don't have them but have ridden in several cars that had them. Bump stops aren't a pleasant riding experience.
I bought a marauder with Eibachs and the factory shocks and something bottoms out. I don't think it was the bump stops, I think it was the factory shocks bottoming out. I changed to KYB shocks and never had this problem again.
I have since installed Eibachs with KYBs on my two marauders, they aren't the smoothest ride, but with less suspension travel it's to be expected, I also think a lot of by bounciness is due to the rear air ride being dropped to the max.
If you want a Cadillac style ride is best to keep the car looking like a 4x4.

+1 on never having issues with the bump stops and Eibachs.
FYI the bump stop is part of the front coil-over assembly and typically needs to be swapped over when replacing shocks.

I have have had the Eibachs and KYB shocks for about 10 years. I will say the springs are stiffer but as a toy i am ok with it. Better cornering I think, I use all of the potential in my car:D
I did not care for the ride of cut coils, i will keep my current set up.

If I was to do it all over again I would just cut springs for a spring rate that's between Eibach and stock instead of pining over the Eibachs.
And cut springs paired with KYBs?
in my MM I have severe duty Monroe/Moog stock, and my front is way too high.
My LX has cut coil/KYB, but with miles on them, so can't judge what that set up would be like 'new'.
I do like the ride height and overall handling opposed to the MM with Monroe/Moog replacements.
To lower MM: Cut a coil and put KYBs in?

I think I may go this route too. Which rears fit without being too short ? Or can I use qa1 rears? Or kyb rears

1 full coil(must be cut from the top) will drop roughly an inch.
Half coil will drop roughly half an inch, pretty simple huh.
Cut to your personal taste.
I would NOT recommend going more than 1&1/4 coils.

I'm going to call them, but leaning toward TQ up front only, and lowering my ride sensor on the stock rear set up.
Has to be the best way to lower the car for under a grand.

thanks, that would be low cost - but I think I'm going to try new school Ridetech on the front.
I've never liked cutting coils, compromising the designed spring rate.

I'll probably use ridetechs in the rear as well , i have qa1s now , not sure if I will do coilovers in the rear , or just a single adjustable rate shock .

Poverty and logic will force me to change one end at a time.
If the stock rear is not a match to the Ridetech front, I'll do the rear.
It might feel great, just a street car after all.....

Give them a call , i spoke with a tech and they have some options coilover, or single adjustable rate shock.
