Tried to do a compression test today, and the 14mm adapter I was using wouldn't thread in, felt like it wasn't long enough. Does this DOHC motor use some kind of special adapter?

That's exactly where I'm at. I have a nice gauge but lost the adapters in a move. Bought the harbor freight kit and I need an adapter. Which one did you buy, an extended reach 14mm?

I hodge podged something together with another compression tester I had at the house

Hmm.. My harbor freight piece came with the adapter. You can always rent the autozone piece (it's normally from harbor freight as well), and not buy a new kit yourself.
