Well went to take it he mm out and got 100 feet from my house with vents blowing then a shake which felt like in front of the passenger side firewall and smoke started coming out of the vents. All is operational. if it was a short I thought I would have blown a fuse but will diagnose later. Anyone with a similar problem ever?

Evap more than likely and I would venture to say it was the Freon you seen coming from your vents.

Smelled more electrical than anything (but I could be wrong). I turned right around and popped the hood in my driveway and saw nothing coming from the engine compartment but I could smell it around the passenger side firewall. Also had heat on when it happened my ac has not worked since most of the freon escaped when installed headers lol.

Just went back out to the garage to cleanse my pallet lol and It does smell a little sweet like coolant mixed with the electrical burning smell.

Maybe your heater hose blew out onto the headers. I had something that seemed similar happen, but it was the evaporator blowing all the refrigerant out. I thought smoke was coming out from under the hood at the time.

The A/C compressor kicks in with the heat being on. It keeps moisture out of the inside air in the winter. If your A/C system is empty, you can burn out the A/C compressor clutch. Pull the electrical connector from the compressor (tie it back so it doesn't catch on the belt) so it doesn't catch fire until you fix the system. This way you can at least drive it for now and even use the heat if needed.

Or turn off the Direct Vent Injection...

Alright cool. Hopefully that does not happen again. Gotta get it recharged soon.

You may end up replacing parts since there is most likely moisture in the system.

Is the blower motor resistor located in the air box like on GM vehicles? If so, that could be it. I've experienced several GM resistor burn-outs.

It's mounted on the firewall under the hood. It's partially behind the motor and hard to reach.

I checked that being I have already replaced it a year or two ago.

Do you have direct vent injection?

Sounds like what JustBob described with his starter, check with him.

Do you have direct vent injection? I imagine so if racer x told me to turn it off lol.

No smoke inside. Mine bellowed out the wiper cowl, hood, and passenger fender well. It got many people's attention.. Internal starter solenoid electrical fire waiting at a red light.

Ok, sorry Bob. My memory is terrible so pulling details from that long ago = oops.

I put my $$ on the BCM from what I've heard so far. A/C compressor comes on with defrost and a/c, not heat. Floor and vent buttons will not trigger it regardless of temp setting. If the system is empty of freon, the compressor won't come on at all. If it is just low, it will come on for a second or two only and shut back off.

I speak from experience... and a small fire. Just because a system is supposed to behave a certain way, doesn't mean it always will.

I was just saying how it is supposed to work.

Your diagnosis may very well be correct, and probably is.
