Ok a lot of recent threads about double din etc... with pics of members set-ups. However, most of you have had these set-ups for years and radios change yearly and the model you have is no longer available for instance.

I desperately have to change the 12 year old single din Alpine that was in my car as it look stupid being single din and is silver. The car is loaded with Alpine stuff, cd changer, amp, subwoofer, speakers that can stay..I just need to update the head unit so steering wheels controls will work..it has a remote now.

I don't really want to spend $1000 for a head unit. I don't need NAV. back up camera could be cool but not necessary. don't have ipod, but have iphone, HD radio, Bluetooth would be good..pretty much simple stuff. if it could play CD in dash then I would ditch the trunk mounted one.

So if you were to buy a head unit today..Pioneer, JVC, Kenwood, others..which one would it be? brand and model number please and thanks!

Make a call to pops and see what he recommends. He is always on top of new technology and would never sell you something you don't need or want. He gave me an awesome package deal on a prior year model head unit that had the newer software already in it.

Kenwood or JVC (same company) double dins are what I use. 250 to 400 for them.

I would do something like this..ditch the CD changer, just rip all CDs to MP3 and load up a flash drive, plug into this bad boy.

There is also an adapter sold separately for the steering wheel controls.

This one for HD radio.

I got the Kenwood DDX 393. It does bluetooth, back up camera, DVD player, and has an input in the rear to plug in any USB device for music. If you want steering wheel controls you have to buy a separate little wiring harness that connects it. If I remember right it was just over $300.
