View Full Version : Installing rear spoiler

I've got a factory spoiler that I'm hoping to install tomorrow. Only hang up is a small concern about the 3M tape around the edge. During the painting process, it appears that the backing for the tape that keeps the sticky part covered came up slightly in a couple spots and those exposed corners got paint on them. Will that affect the install and prevent the spoiler from installing correctly and remaining intact over time? Pics of examples included below.

The spoiler is held on with the bolts & nuts. I wouldn't worry about the tape although you can get new 3M tape at most FLAPS to replace the buggered up sections.

Does your spoiler have the 4 bolts? The OEM spoiler came with the 4 bolts and the tape on back of the spoiler for mounting.

1. If you are mounting with only the tape I would replace the painted portion with new tape before mounting. But then again I do not think I would mount with just the tape.

2. If you have the 4 bolts I wouldn't worry about the small sections that have paint on the tape.

If you have the bolts do you have the mounting instructions with bolt hole templates? If you do not have the template I am pretty sure I can find one.

Get an old blanket and completely cover top of bumper over edge and inside of truck to capture the metal shavings etc. use extra beach towels etc... When done roll them up gently and shake out elsewhere. This will save you cleanup and shaving barbed into you trunk carpet, etc...

I figured as much, but I just worried that the ends might pull away. I don't know, just a thought that crossed my mind. I might be overthinking it.

Will be mounting with the bolts for sure. Have all the templates and all hardware as it came straight from Ford.

Thanks for the tip.

Anyone use the PM-12-A stuff listed in the instruction manual or did you just leave it alone? It's the anti-corrosive stuff that's used to coat the inside of the holes that are drilled out. Looks like you're supposed to put it in after you de-burr the drilled out holes in the trunk lid.

Definitely use some sort of silicon or anti rust coating on the drilled holes before installing.

Most silicones release acetic acid when curing which corrode bare steel and attract rust to start sooner than later..I don't recommend using silicone , use a rust inhibitor, cosmoline, fluid film etc. it's on the inside and under the spoiler right? know one will see it. Have or wife/gfriend get nail polish close to the color

Do yourself a favor and sell the damn spoiler........leave the trunk lid natural and move on to something that will really enhance your car!!:bandit::beer:

I ended up using some krylon indoor/outdoor spray paint that I sprayed into a cup and then used a q-tip to dab it inside the bare metal areas. It listed metal as an appropriate application. Only time will tell, but I think it will be alright. Here's a pic below:

Nice.

I like the Marauder with the factory spoiler. I know some spoilers are too much, and those ricer guys really get out of hand on the spoilers, but the Marauder spoiler is perfect. It looks just right to me. It's one of the first things I started searching for after I got mine.

Looks great! I feel the spoiler enhances the Marauders Bad-Assness. I thought about putting a back-up cam in mine.

Agreed. It's sleek and low profile but still sporty which complements the understated look of the Marauder.

The spoiler added the down force and resultant stability I needed for the high banks of the Daytona International Speedway and the Bonneville Salt Flats - especially above 200 miles per hour.
