Bad disc displayed on radio

My CD player in dash reads bad disc and won't play.
It played fine when it was parked in fall of 2012
Is a cleaner worth trying?, will that just be a waste?

Have you tried a different disk?

Best thing to do is find a bad OEM head unit that won't pick up FM (that's what goes bad on most of them). Swap the internal CD player, it's easy. Then you'll have one that works and one that has both components hosed up.

Yeah , both were nearly brand new

I have the same issue in my escape 6 disk radio, I'm thinking I need to clean the lens... I just haven't tracked down a cleaning cd yet.
